UWC Mahindra is seeking a dedicated Head of Experiential Learning (Triveni & Akshara).

The Head of Experiential Learning (Triveni & Akshara) provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all experiential learning programmes at the College. This includes the design, delivery, and continuous development of programmes that align with the UWC mission and the IB philosophy of holistic education.

The Head of Experiential Learning works closely with the Head of Academics (HoA) and Head of Student Life (HoSL) to ensure integration and coherence across the College’s three core programmes: academics, experiential learning and residential life.

The role oversees three core components of the Experiential Learning programme:

  • Triveni Programme:CAS, Campus Events, Experience India Week and Project Week
  • Outdoor Education:Hiking, Trekking, Overnight stay in village homes, Camping, Kayaking, Cycling, Rappelling, etc
  • Grants-Based Projects:Young Aurora Humanitarian Competition (global for UWC schools, annual); GoMAD (for UWC schools)

In addition, the role leads Akshara, the College’s hub for co-curricular and service-learning initiatives.

The position includes a reduced teaching load. The candidate will be expected to teach two IB Diploma Programme classes (SL or HL) or Theory of Knowledge (TOK). Applicants should indicate the IB subject(s) they are qualified to teach.

Responsibilities

  • Programme Leadership & Strategy
    • Provide overall leadership for the Triveni and Akshara programmes in alignment with the UWC mission and IB CAS framework
    • Lead ongoing curriculum design, development, and assessment practices in collaboration with academic and student life leadership
    • Support and contribute to the development of the MUWCI Core curriculum
    • Spearhead strategic initiatives aligned with Akshara’s objectives
    • Develop frameworks to measure and evaluate the impact of experiential learning programmes
    • Design structured reflection processes that connect student experiences to the IB Learner Profile and UWC values
  • Programme Management & Operations
    • Oversee planning and execution of key programmes such as Experience India Week and Project Week
    • Plan and execute major campus events under the Triveni programme
    • Manage large-scale programmes involving 300+ participants
    • Coordinate logistics and operations across multiple internal and external stakeholders
    • Ensure effective use and maintenance of facilities and equipment (outdoor, sound, and video)
    • Manage budgets related to Triveni and Akshara programmes
  • People Leadership & Capacity Building
    • Lead, mentor, and support a team of faculty, staff, and student leaders
    • Coordinate the work of 30+ faculty/staff mentors across service learning initiatives
    • Foster a culture of experiential educators across campus
    • Coach faculty in facilitation skills, distinct from traditional classroom teaching
    • Embed experiential learning approaches within academic disciplines, and collaborate with Heads of Group (HoGs) and teachers to identify meaningful curricular connections between Triveni activities and IB subjects
    • Identify and facilitate relevant training and professional development opportunities
    • Contribute to recruitment and staffing processes, including participation in faculty hiring and interview committees
  • Student Leadership Development
    • Build and strengthen student leadership structures within the Triveni programme
    • Train and mentor student leaders, including Triveni representatives, coordinators, and project heads
    • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness and impact of student leadership initiatives
  • Outdoor Education Leadership
    • Articulate and promote the philosophy and pedagogy of outdoor education within the College
    • Design and oversee expeditions and nature-based learning experiences
    • Adopt a risk-benefit approach that goes beyond compliance in outdoor programming
  • Partnerships & Community Engagement
    • Act as the primary liaison between the College and partner organisations
    • Build and sustain meaningful relationships with NGOs, local schools, Panchayats, and government bodies
    • Drive authentic partnerships that create shared, positive outcomes for students and communities
    • Maintain proactive communication with key stakeholders and delivery partners
    • Identify and develop new partnership opportunities aligned with experiential learning goals
    • Ensure ethical, reciprocal, and sustainable engagement practices
  • Student Experience & Wellbeing
    • Ensure a student-centred approach across all experiential learning programmes
    • Foster a “home on campus” environment through trust-based advising and meaningful student engagement
    • Provide advisory support that builds trust and a strong sense of belonging
    • Oversee reporting of student achievement in College reports
  • Safety, Risk and Compliance
    • Ensure the highest standards of safety and security across all on and off-campus programmes
    • Lead risk assessments and establish appropriate protocols for all activities
    • Maintain and update key policy documents (e.g., Triveni Handbook, Project Guidelines)
  • Communication & Institutional Alignment
    • Ensure effective communication of programme activities and achievements to all stakeholders (students, parents, National Committees, etc.)
    • Collaborate closely with internal teams, including Infrastructure, Finance, Transport, Sodexo and the CFO’s office
    • Participate in senior leadership meetings to ensure alignment across the College
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Teach MUWCI Core sessions as required
    • Contribute to orientation programmes for faculty and students
    • Participate in UWC Indian National Committee selection processes

Skills and preferred experience

  • Minimum Qualifications & Experience
    • Master’s degree in Education or a related field
    • Minimum 5 years of relevant international teaching experience (IBDP experience preferred)
    • Demonstrated understanding of experiential learning philosophy and its application
    • Experience working in multicultural environments
    • Familiarity with Google Workspace and ManageBac/Toddle
    • Proven experience in staff supervision and training
    • Wilderness First Aid Certification
