Head of Data and Community
We’re looking for a strategic, scientifically‑minded, and collaborative leader to join the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC) as Head of Data and Community.
This senior role is responsible for the stewardship and future direction of the Cambridge Structural Database (CSD) and for leading CCDC’s global community engagement, including training, education and outreach. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you’ll work closely with the Executive Director and other senior leaders to shape how CCDC’s data and community activities deliver scientific excellence and public benefit.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading the Data and Community function, including teams responsible for creating, curating, and sustaining the CSD and delivering community‑facing activities.
- Defining and delivering the long‑term strategy for CCDC’s scientific data and community engagement.
- Acting as the executive steward of the CSD, ensuring its quality, integrity, sustainability, and scientific impact.
- Working closely with the Head of Science to align scientific priorities, data strategy, and community needs.
- Collaborating with Product, Technology, and Commercial teams to embed community and data requirements into platforms, services, and partnerships.
- Representing CCDC externally through scientific forums, consortia, and collaborations, acting as a senior ambassador for the community we serve.
What we’re looking for:
- Senior leadership experience in a scientific, data‑driven, research, or not‑for‑profit environment.
- Good understanding of scientific data, research infrastructure, and the role of high‑quality data resources in enabling scientific discovery.
- Credibility within crystallography, structural science, or a closely related field, with the ability to engage scientific communities at senior level.
- Experience managing and developing scientific or technical teams.
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with confidence operating at executive level.
- A collaborative, inclusive leadership style and commitment to public benefit and scientific impact.
