Head of Additional Support for Learning (3-18)
Job role
Key tasks of the position include:
Departmental Leader
Including, but not limited to:
- Setting the strategic direction, priorities and ethos of the department;
- Line Management and deployment of staff in the department.
Pupil Support
Including, but not limited to:
- Overseeing all aspects of additional support needs provision for pupils as outlined in the Education (Additional Support for Learning) Act (Scotland) 2004;
- Maintaining up to date accessible records outlining pupil needs and recommended strategies; and
- Providing information, advice and support to staff regarding both additional support provision and the identification of the most effective teaching approaches for ASN pupils.
Working in Partnership
Including, but not limited to:
- Leading an ASL Professional Pathway as part of career long professional learning;
- Liaising with external agencies, such as Community Child Health, CAMHS and Educational Psychologies, as appropriate; and
- Working with parents to ensure that support is effective and keeping parents informed about their child’s progress through regular meetings, annual reviews and reports.
