Hale Light Orchestra - Musical Director / Conductor Vacancy
Hale Light Orchestra (HLO), an amateur community-based orchestra, is seeking a permanent MD / Conductor for weekly rehearsals starting in September 2026.
HLO specialises in the 'light orchestral' genre and is fortunate to have an extensive music library built up over the last 40 years from which most of our rehearsal and concert programmes are drawn.
This is a rare opportunity and would ideally suit a talented musical individual with conducting experience and at least some knowledge and/or a great enthusiasm for the light music repertoire.
All of our players and previous MDs are/were drawn from the local community and HLO are keen to continue that tradition. HLO finances are based on player membership subscriptions, concert receipts and other donations only. There are no paid positions within the orchestra, including the role of MD / Conductor. What we can offer is a very talented, enthusiastic, friendly and committed group of fun-loving amateur players, a large library of orchestral music, containing many rare and unique arrangements. We have an excellent rehearsal space with modern facilities.
The orchestra rehearses weekly on MOnday evenings from 19:45-21:45 hours - from beginning of September to early / mid-July at Altrincham United Reformed Church, Cecil Road, Hale, Cheshire, WA15 9NT.
HLO normally gives 3-5 public concerts per year, usually in conjunction with a local charity or good cause. Membership is approximately 35 players (and growing) with all main instrument sections represented.
