Reporting to the Grounds Manager the post joins a team of Grounds staff with the responsibility for
the daily maintenance within the grounds of the Mount Kelly site, including outdoor sports pitches,
artificial facilities and equipment, also the general maintenance of the grounds, grass areas, planted
areas, litter clearance and cleaning of facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

•  Assist with proper care, maintenance and improvement of all sports turf and grassed areas,
gardens, boundaries and boarders (including planting of bulbs, shrubs and bedding plants as
required) throughout the Mount Kelly sites.

•  Maintenance of the sports turf including cutting, rolling, scarifying, aerating, watering,

seeding, fertilising and top dressing.

•  Setting out of pitches including marking, erection of goals/nets, corner flags and boundary

markers.

•  All aspects of cricket pitch preparation, maintenance, marking and renovation.

•  Maintenance of paths, borders, hedges and roadways.

•  Assist with removal of litter/debris/leaves from hard surface areas of the school.

•  Early morning gritting of paths and roads.

•  Minor machinery and equipment maintenance.

•  Be a competent user of relevant machinery including tractor/ride-on mowers, scrub cutter,

strimmer’s, hedge cutters.

•  Drive vehicles and equipment as required for grounds maintenance operations

•  Fully knowledgeable of all relevant Health and Safety regulations

•  Promote and ensure safe working practices at all times

•  Possess thorough understanding of regulations relating to chemicals and dangerous

substances

•  Attend training courses as requested

•  Undertake other duties from time to time as requested by the Grounds Manager or Deputy

Grounds manager.

•  Mount Kelly is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young

people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment, and behave
accordingly. Although there is no direct responsibility for children, this role will involve daily
contact with pupils.

Requirements

•  Extensive grounds-maintenance experience which must include rugby,

football and cricket grounds/pitches

•  Knowledge of maintaining grounds to high standards
•  Ability to take direction but also work on own initiative
•  Knowledge/competence in the use of pesticides and other chemicals
•  The ability to communicate appropriately with staff/parent’s

pupils/dignitaries and other visitors

•  Appropriate Health & Safety knowledge and qualifications
•  Experience of working in a ground’s maintenance environment
•  Experience of grass cutting and general grounds maintenance
•  Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
•  NVQ Level 2 in Amenity Horticulture or equivalent in (Sports Turf

Maintenance)

•  Good level of literacy, numeracy and ICT competence
•  Ability to prepare top quality playing surfaces.
•  Able to work to deadlines.
•  Ability to motivate and communicate effectively
•  PA1 PA6 and PA2 spraying certificate desirable
•  Full UK Driving License is required
•  Satisfactorily meeting the school’s employment checks – Disclosure and

Barring Service (DBS) check, references, qualifications and legal entitlement
to work in the UK
