Job Description: Graduate Drama Assistant Location: Kingswood Senior School Responsible to: Director of Drama The Position We are looking for a dedicated and skilled professional to join our thriving and creative theatrical department within a school proud of its sense of community. This position would suit Drama graduates with ambitions to teach or direct young people. Actors or Directors looking to move into teaching would also be well suited to this position. The post is fixed term for one academic year. Department information Kingswood School has an excellent reputation for creating Drama to extremely high standards. Drama is taught to all year groups at Kingswood by two full-time and one part-time specialist and the subject is a popular choice at both GCSE and A Level. We are fortunate to benefit from two dedicated teaching and performance spaces — a ‘black box’ studio and a 375 seater theatre. Both spaces are fully equipped with lighting and sound equipment. The Kingswood Theatre is run by a full time manager. Lessons are supplemented with a wide variety of extra-curricular activities both for traditional acting and technical options. We stage three major productions a year as well as a number of other performance and assessment evenings. Key Duties & Responsibilities • Assist in the teaching of Drama for approximately twenty lessons a week. • Assist with all production rehearsals and performances in whatever capacity is required. • Assist with GCSE and A Level assessment rehearsals and performances – including supervising evening rehearsals as required. • Run one Drama activity a week by agreement with the Head of Department. • Attend planning meetings at the start of term, departmental meetings weekly and production meetings as required. • Manage department display areas and assist with publicity, both internal and external, for all performances. • Produce and direct one production for KS3 during the course of the year or equivalent. • Assist with all administrative tasks in the department as required. • Assist on trips as organised by the department. The ideal candidate Qualifications, experience and skills You will have: • A degree in a relevant Arts discipline or equivalent level qualification • Good literacy and numeracy skills • Previous experience in a similar role or within an Arts organisation is desirable • Computer literacy and the ability to use a variety of software including PowerPoint, Publisher and editing programmes • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to interact appropriately with others within the school community • High creativity • A high level of flexibility with a ‘can do’ attitude • The ability to work independently and proactively and as part of a team • Good organisational skills • Self-motivation Key Competencies • Emotional resilience and ability to work calmly under pressure • Commitment to equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice • Flexible and with a ‘can do’ attitude • Evidence of appropriate professional development • Supportive of the Christian ethos of the school • Open to new ideas and practices An Independent Co-educational Boarding and Day School for pupils aged 11-18. Terms and conditions Normal hours of work Your normal hours of work will be 40 hours per week, term time only. Working hours may include evenings and some weekends and flexibility with regards to hours will be required This is a fixed term appointment from 1 September 2026 to 6 July 2027. Holiday Paid holiday entitlement is pro-rata to 6.6 weeks per year. Staff development review Your Staff Development Review will be undertaken by the Director of Drama. Pay & benefits of service Salary The salary for this term time contract (34 weeks) is £20,942 per annum including holiday pay.
