UWC is a deliberately diverse, mission-driven international college with a strong commitment to the educational principles of Kurt Hahn, its founder, and a passionate belief in the importance of education as a force for good in the world - to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.
Since 1962, UWC has entrusted students with authentic responsibility and guided them to make appropriate choices and to learn from their mistakes. It is through this trust, responsibility and accountability that students learn that they can make a difference (‘You are needed’) and that through effort and engagement they can achieve far more than they ever imagined (‘There is more in you than you think’).
UWC Atlantic College is recruiting for a Senior Faculty Team for the Global Leadership Experience UWC short course.
The Global Leadership Experience (GLE) is UWC Atlantic’s flagship summer short course for students aged 15–17.
Reimagined for 2026, the curriculum is rooted in UWC Atlantic's Systems Transformation Pathway (STP) and 60-year history of pioneering education.
To deliver this ambitious vision, we are assembling a team of Visiting Faculty—experienced educators and systems thinkers ready to pilot a new standard in summer education.
Working as a team of 6, you will guide a diverse cohort of international students through a fast-paced journey involving interactive workshops, outdoor activities, and community engagement.
Students will explore systems practice, regenerative systems, and community design using the college’s coastal estate and surroundings as a living classroom.
This is a professional teaching contract. You are expected to be an active Residential Faculty presence—sharing meals with students, supporting evening events, and contributing to the holistic educational environment.
Reporting to: GLE Course Director
Responsibilities
- Curriculum delivery: Facilitate interactive workshops based on systems thinking, design thinking, and global issues. Your goal is to translate complex theory into engaging, accessible learning experiences.
- Activity leadership: Lead experiential activities, off-site excursions, project work, and community engagements. Your goal is to support participants through leadership development as part of a cohort-based experience.
- Outdoor support: Actively support and supervise students during outdoor activities (hikes, coastal exploration, wilderness challenges). Note: You are not expected to lead technical activities, but must support high safety standards and morale.
- Residential pastoral support: While Residential Supervisors hold primary pastoral responsibility, you are expected to identify student needs early, maintain professional boundaries, and provide a visible, responsible adult presence.
Skills and preferred experience
ESSENTIAL:
- Professional Experience
- Demonstrated experience in teaching or facilitating 15–17-year-olds in an educational or residential setting
- Ability to lead activities on 2 or more of the following themes: complexity and systems thinking, regeneration, geopolitics, social entrepreneurship, peacebuilding, and leadership development
- Compliance & Safety
- Right to Work: Must already hold the right to work in the UK (note: this fixed-term role is not eligible for visa sponsorship)
- Safeguarding: UWC Atlantic is committed to safeguarding. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check and reference checks in line with safer recruitment guidance
- First Aid: Valid first aid certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to start)
DESIRABLE:
- A teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS) or masters level specialism is highly desirable
