About the role

As the general kitchen assistant, you will work closely with the kitchen staff, you will help to deliver
fresh, seasonal and interesting dishes, to include sandwiches, salads and cold desserts, and also be
flexible in helping other areas in the kitchen including any preparation that is required. In addition to
this you will be required to work closely with your kitchen team members to ensure the smooth
operation of the kitchen and contributing to a positive dining experience for pupils and staff alike. The
successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the food standards set out by the head chef.

This is a hands-on role that requires good culinary skills, good organisation, and the ability to work
efficiently in a busy, fast-paced environment. A genuine passion for food and a commitment to

Key responsibilities

People and planning

•  Have a creative flair in food planning.
•  Prepare all types of food in line with kitchen requirements.
•  Assist with all aspects of the day to day running of the kitchen, working as an effective team

member.

•  Control food wastage.
•  Clean kitchen and machinery to the highest standards.
•  Ensure high standards of food presentation and hygiene.
•  To work closely with the senior chefs with regards to the allergen policy.

Quality and safety

•  Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of

Kingswood

•  Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times

•  To comply with all school policies and procedures including reporting any concerns to the

appropriate person in relation to those covering child protection, health, safety, welfare, security,
confidentiality and data protection.

Child protection

It is your responsibility to help promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for
whom you are responsible, or with whom you come into contact, and to adhere to and ensure
compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. If, in the course of carrying
out the duties of the post, you become aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of
children in the school, you must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Protecting children from the risk of radicalisation is part of the School’s safeguarding duties (under the
Prevent Duty).
Competencies

The competency profile is used to support objective setting, appraisal, and continuous professional
development planning.

Terms and Conditions

This is a full-time position, term time plus 20 days, your hours of work will be 7.00am to 3.00pm,
Monday to Thursday (including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break), and 7.00am to 2.30pm on a Friday.
You will receive paid holiday, with holidays to be taken outside of term time.

Actual salary of £21,324 per annum, for 38 weeks per year, inclusive of holiday pay, pro rata to the full-
time salary of £25,557.73 per annum.
