Who we are
KAB is a charity and service provider that has been working throughout Kent and the surrounding areas since 1920. Our aim is to improve the quality of life for sight impaired people of all ages and enable them to maximise their independence.
We have around 110 staff working from four local bases, and around 500 volunteers across the region. The charity has a turnover of c. £2.5 million p.a., and is overseen by a Board of Trustees.
Our locations
Our Rehabilitation teams are split into four main contract areas: West Kent, East Kent, Medway and Bromley. Most of our work with clients is within the clients’ homes, and some clients visit our Sight Centres.
There are three Sight Centres, with the addition of our Iris vehicle, which is a mobile Sight Centre. Maidstone Sight Centre is also our head office, with departments such as Finance, HR, Fundraising and our Guide Communicator service. This centre services the West Kent and Medway areas. Our other Sight Centres are in Bromley and Canterbury (East Kent). Each Centre has a resource room full of equipment and technology that a client can try.
Additional services we provide
• Transcription services – transcribing documents into different formats including Braille, large print and audio.
• Training courses in Visual Impairment Awareness, Hearing Impairment Awareness, Deafblind Awareness and Assistive Technology.
• CPD accredited training for professionals in supporting patients with low vision.
• DBS checking service for companies.

Thomas Pocklington Trust (TPT) and RNIB are collaborating with organisations from both the sight loss and wider charity sector as well as corporate organisations to create new opportunities for blind and partially sighted people to find employment through the Get Set Progress (GSP) Internship programme. Kent association for the Blind is delighted to be offering an internship as part of the Get Set Progress scheme.

Job description
Role: Fundraising office Intern
Department: Services/Fundraising
Reporting to: Katherine Barr, Director of Services
Location: Office bases are available at Maidstone, Canterbury or Bromley. An element of hybrid working, to include working from home, is also possible and will be discussed with the successful candidate to ensure a balance between office experience and flexible working. Salary: Based on the Real Living Wage
Contract type: full-time 35 hours per week, Fixed Term, 9-month contract
Purpose of the role:
To support the Fundraising activities of Kent Association for the Blind, with a primary focus on Trust and Foundation Fundraising.

Main responsibilities:
• Researching funding opportunities
• Drafting sections of funding applications
• Drafting update reports and thank you letters for funders
• Supporting the Fundraising team with other aspects of Fundraising through research or communication with stakeholders

Essential criteria
Important information:
• This role has a Genuine Occupational Requirement that the successful applicant be a person who is blind or partially sighted, in line with The Equality Act 2010.
• Interns need to be able to travel to the TPT Hub in London for development events throughout the course of the internship programme (costs covered by TPT).
• Having not previously undertaken the Get Set Progress internship programme.
• Successful applicants must have the Right to Work in the UK for the duration of the Internship. Sponsorship will not be provided.
