Age UK Bristol’s Friends Ageing Better (FAB) service offers a variety of activities to help people stay connected, get active and enjoy life. We do this to reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing so that people age well. We are looking for someone to join our FAB team. If you are an outgoing and friendly person who enjoys working with members of the public, this could be the ideal job for you. You’ll need to be a good listener and happy to work as part of a close-knit team as well as having the confidence to be the face of FAB when working independently.
FAB is a friendly community for people aged 50+ who get together to have fun, socialise and stay active. From weekly neighbourhood social cafes, tai chi sessions, discos and special events to sharing news about what’s happening in the city, people are encouraged to meet new people, try new things and to get involved in Bristol’s vibrant community life. FAB also encourages older people to volunteer in a variety of ways including in the delivery of the services we offer.
The role involves providing general support to the FAB team, assisting with the delivery of a wide range of activities and events. We’re looking for someone with great organisational skills and an interest in community events. You’ll help with sourcing, recruiting and supporting volunteers, ensuring they feel confident, valued and well supported in their roles. You’ll support staff and volunteers to host FAB services and be able to step in to cover sessions when needed. You’ll also make regular visits to our FAB cafés and every two months help deliver our evening FAB discos. You’ll need to be confident using social media and able to keep our Facebook page up to date. There is also scope to be creative in developing new activities based on what you hear people are interested in.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with enthusiasm and creativity, who can help get things up and running, and who is encouraging and supportive of our volunteers. You’ll help ensure our services provide a welcoming environment and be able to support the people you meet by listening to their needs, developing appropriate activities, and connecting them to relevant opportunities and support.
This role is all about teamwork and good communication skills. Ideally you will already have a broad knowledge of the services offered by the voluntary sector, but if not, you will be supported to learn. If you genuinely enjoy working with people and want to enable older people to age well by improving their independence and engagement with others, we’d love to hear from you.
Due to the nature of this post, you will be required to work frequently outside of the office. However you’ll come into the office to ensure close connections with other staff. There will be some opportunity for working from home on occasion.
You will need to be able to travel to activities across different areas of Bristol, quite often taking materials and literature, so you will need to be able to get around the city efficiently.
We work closely with other voluntary organisations who share our ambition to build an age-friendly city. We are looking for someone with the drive and commitment to help us make a difference.
You will benefit from:
- Bike to work scheme available
- Flexible working including flexitime and hybrid-working
- 25 days holiday pro rata, plus bank holidays
- 6% employer pension contribution
- Ongoing training, support and development
- Employee Assistance Programme
- An employer which values its staff
- Central, city centre office, with shower facilities.
We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage people from a variety of backgrounds to apply to work with us.
