Freelance Event Manager Job Description
Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is looking for experienced freelance Event Managers to form a small pool of confident event leads, who will be Pitzhanger's go-to for supporting events when additional support is required. You will successfully deliver events whilst leading a team of Duty Managers and be our client's main point of contact during their event. This will be a close relationship between PGMT and 2-3 freelance event managers; we'll support you with training, a flexible work arrangement, and the opportunity to work on a range of interesting events in our beautiful heritage site. In return, we need experienced Event Managers who can care for our site, our guests and our teams, with availability to take on event projects quickly as needed.

Hours: Freelance contract working flexibly across a seven-day week including weekends and bank holidays. Candidate to be available to sign up to shifts, agreeing to a minimum term of 6- months of availability from May to October 2026
Salary: Hourly rate based on experience (to be invoiced by employee on a monthly basis)
Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery
Pitzhanger Manor is the Grade I listed ‘country’ house of Sir John Soane, designed and built by Soane 1800-1804 in what was then rural Ealing, West London. Pitzhanger reopened to the public following a £12m HLF and ACE-supported building project to restore Soane’s original design and upgrade the adjacent Gallery to stage a series of ambitious and challenging contemporary art exhibitions.
Role
Efficient and experienced freelance Event Manager required to deliver the private hire events at our Grade I listed heritage site at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, West London W5. This involves managing the onsite delivery team with a can-do attitude for a variety of events; corporate functions, high-end weddings, film and photo shoots. You will be responsible for executing the event to the pre-agreed plan as arranged by the Private Hire team and the client prior to the event. You will be managing the team of Duty Managers at the event to deliver shoots, weddings and functions to the highest standards expected at Pitzhanger.
Key Accountabilities
Managing events from start to finish on the day, ensuring everything set out on the event sheet is adhered to
Overseeing the external suppliers load in and out, and ensuring they follow the regulations of our Grade I listed site

• Greeting clients and a being present to answer queries and support guests during the event
Leading the team of Duty Managers from the initial load in and setup, throughout the event and derig at the end to return the Manor to the correct state
To manage the client and supplier understanding of heritage constraints of events in a Grade I and Grade II listed historic site, to have overall responsibility for this on the day and ensure all staff are appropriately briefed of the constraints
• To brief teams and large crews on key Health & Safety information to mitigate any risks
Occasionally you may be involved in pre-planning (ie. stepping in to expand the team and being in touch with clients directly to plan the event in advance)
Person Specification
Minimum of 2-years experience working in an Event Manager role (at a venue, caterer or freelance), responsible for the delivery of a variety of event styles and managing a team
• You should be reliable, trustworthy and punctual with a proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude
You will have excellent attention to detail and are confident using your initiative to be able to solve problems quickly and calmly
Proactive and detail oriented, to ensure the client has the best experience possible every time they book with us
• You should be confident, open, friendly and enjoy working with the public
• You are available to work flexibly across a 7-day week including weekends and bank holidays
You will have an understanding of (or willingness to learn) the importance of protecting our Grade I listed site, and the confidence to ensure that the necessary precautions are carried out
Dress Code
Event Duty Managers should be dressed smartly to reflect the high standard of events at Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery, usually in all black. Please note that if you are not dressed appropriately, you may not be able to work the shift.
