Food Technology Teacher (Key Stages Two and Three)

REPORTS TO

Head of Technology Engineering and Design

CONTRACT TYPE

Part-Time 0.5 (Permanent)

The Role: Part-Time Food Technology Teacher

The Teacher of Food Technology will be an enthusiastic and effective practitioner, responsible for delivering engaging
and well-planned Food Technology lessons that inspire pupils to develop practical cooking skills, an understanding of
nutrition, and a positive relationship with food.

The post holder will contribute to the development of the Food Technology curriculum and support the wider life of
the school, while upholding the values and high standards of Beachborough.

Members  of  staff  are  expected  to  comply  with  any  reasonable  request  from  their  line  manager  or  the  Senior
Leadership Team to undertake work of a similar level not specifically detailed in this job description.

Main Requirements

•  You must be an excellent teacher who has a real enthusiasm for Food Technology (QTS is not essential)
•  You must enjoy the pastoral aspects of teaching.
•  You must want to contribute to the extra-curricular activities of the Department and of Beachborough.

Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

•  Teach Food Technology to designated classes across the relevant age range.
•  Plan and deliver well-structured, engaging lessons that meet the needs of all pupils.
•  Develop pupils’ practical skills, confidence, creativity and understanding of nutrition, food safety and healthy

eating.

•  Set clear learning objectives and appropriate targets based on prior attainment.
•  Use a range of teaching strategies and resources to support all learners, including those with additional needs.
•  Assess, monitor and record pupils’ progress effectively and provide constructive feedback in line with school

policy.

•  Maintain  a  positive,  safe  and  well-organised  teaching  environment,  ensuring  compliance  with  health  and

safety requirements in practical lessons.

Curriculum and Departmental Contribution

•  Contribute to the preparation of schemes of work and resources.
•  Keep subject knowledge up to date, including developments in Food Technology, nutrition and

pedagogy.

•  Attend departmental meetings and contribute positively to team planning and reflection.
•  Support co-curricular activities related to Food Technology where appropriate.
•  Plan appropriately to meet the needs of all pupils, through a range of teaching strategies and resources.
•  Be able to set clear targets, based on prior attainment, for pupils’ learning.
•  Keep appropriate and efficient records.
•  Maintain good order and discipline amongst all pupils, in accordance with the school’s policy.
•  Report to parents on the development, progress and attainment of pupils, in line with the school’s

policy.

•  Provide a stimulating classroom environment, where resources can be accessed appropriately by all

pupils.

Pastoral and Professional Responsibilities

•  Fulfil the safeguarding responsibilities expected of all teachers.
•  Promote pupils’ wellbeing, confidence and positive behaviour in line with school expectations.
•  Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and parents as required.
•  Attend relevant meetings, training and school events proportionate to the part-time nature of the role.
•  Adhere  to  all  school  policies,  including  safeguarding,  health  and  safety,  data  protection  and  professional

conduct.

The post holders must adhere to and ensure compliance with the school’s Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy at
all  times.  If,  in  the  course of  carrying out  the  duties of  the  post,  the  post-holder  becomes  aware  of  any actual or
potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the school, he/she must report any concerns to the DSL.
