Salary: £32,000 FTE Pro Rata

Location: Sunflower Townhouse, 4 Winchester Place, Poole Town Centre

Type: Part Time Financial Technician – 12 month Fixed Term Contract. 15 Hours per week – 2 days per week

Job Scope
As a Financial Technician, you’ll play an important role within the finance team, supporting the day-to-day running of the accounts function and helping to ensure our financial information is accurate, timely and useful.

You’ll be involved in the full management accounting cycle, from maintaining the general ledger and completing reconciliations through to supporting the month-end close and preparation of management accounts. You’ll work closely with the Interim Finance Director and wider finance team to investigate variances, identify issues and make sure the numbers tell the right story.

The role will also involve supporting budgeting and forecasting, monitoring expenditure and providing financial information to budget holders across the business. You’ll help with accruals, prepayments, journals, reporting and analysis, as well as providing support with year-end accounts and audit requirements.

This is a hands-on role, so you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of finance activities rather than focusing on just one area. You’ll work with different teams across the charity, answering queries, providing financial insight and helping colleagues understand their numbers.

It’s a great opportunity for someone who already has a good grounding in accounting and is looking to develop their management accounting experience further within a supportive and collaborative finance environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
• Completion of financial tasks within the hospice and its subsidiary companies, ensuring they are managed in a timely way
• Assist with month-end close, journals, accruals and prepayments.
• Prepare bank, balance sheet and control account reconciliations.
• Assist with monthly management accounts and variance analysis.
• Monitor budgets, forecasts and departmental expenditure.
• Analyse financial data and investigate discrepancies.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger activities.
• Prepare financial reports and schedules for management or income generation teams.
• Assist with year-end accounts and audit requirements.
• Respond to finance queries and support budget holders
• Prepare the monthly cashflow report
• Manage the fixed assets register and calculate monthly depreciation
What We’re Looking For
Do you enjoy working with numbers, spotting the detail and understanding what the figures are really telling you? Are you someone who likes to stay organised, solve problems and make sure everything adds up?

We’re looking for a Financial Technician who enjoys being part of a busy finance team and getting involved in a bit of everything. We’re looking for someone who can look beyond the numbers and help explain why income or costs have changed, rather than simply reporting the figures.

Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who is curious, approachable and enjoys getting stuck in. You’ll have a good eye for detail, be comfortable working with numbers and Excel, and be confident asking questions when something doesn’t look quite right.

If you’re looking for a role where you can build your management accounting experience, learn from a supportive finance team and make a real contribution, we’d love to hear from you.

You will be educated to A level or equivalent standard and will have experience of working with a range of IT and Administration / Accounting systems with a solid understanding of excel, word and outlook. AAT qualification is required and the ideal candidate will be someone pursuing further accounting qualifications like CIMA or ACCA.
The successful candidate will be a positive contributor, solutions oriented with a good eye for detail, motivated to work for a growing charity with strong values and a talented team.
