24-07-2026sApplications are invited for 2 full-time Finance Officers working in the Post-Award team who will be based in the University’s Finance Services but working closely with colleagues in the Research Office (currently called Integrated Research and Impact Support (IRIS) Service).
This post-holders will carry out the post award financial administration of a range of externally funded projects, primarily for research grants, consultancy, training and postgraduate research studentships, ensuring compliance with university regulations and funding body requirements, and to ensure the maximum funds are received as promptly as possible.
Candidates should be educated to AS/A level standard (or equivalent) and have a strong track record of relevant financial administration experience. Excellent numerical and analytical skills, including the ability to effectively interpret and summarise complex documents and requirements is essential.
The successful candidates will be expected to commence as soon as possible. The ability to communicate in Welsh is desirable for this post.
Due to the nature of the role the candidates will be required to work from the office for the majority of their time. Through our Dynamic Working framework, there will also be the option to spend some time working remotely (although remaining in the UK) to support work life balance, which will be discussed further with candidates at interview.

Purpose of the Job
This post-holders will carry out the post award financial administration of a range of externally funded projects, primarily for research grants, consultancy, training and postgraduate research studentships, ensuring compliance with university regulations and funding body requirements, and to ensure the maximum funds are received as promptly as possible.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To work closely with other Post-Award team members to undertake a variety of financial processing, monitoring and reporting tasks sharing responsibility for providing a flexible and responsive finance service.
- To manage own portfolio of projects for the quarterly project review process: including the reconciliation, analysis and presentation of project expenditure for the preparation of invoices/claims to maximise the value and timeliness of income to the University.
- Provide accurate and timely information and guidance to researchers and project managers (estimates, forecasts, expenditure and eligibility conditions).
- To ensure good preparation for audit as required, and to identify, investigate and resolve issues to ensure claims are auditable and within financial regulations.
- To prioritise the processing of requests for research projects and assist with project staff appointments against fixed term funding, calculating the cost of the appointment and ascertaining the funds available, with recognition of the funding body’s terms and conditions, and University regulations.
- Work with the monthly timesheet system as and when required to maintain accurate and auditable records of activity.
- Attend relevant meetings and provide administrative support, when required.
- To play a key role in improving the working capital for the research and project grants portfolio, including raising invoices/credit notes and liaising with the funders to prepare claims and collect payments. Internal and External Relationships
- Liaison with external organisations as required in relation to the project(s).
- To assist ad hoc reporting and data requirements.
- Maintain relationships with the IRIS/Research Office on matters regarding Pre-Award, grant management systems, payments and project operations and the Legal Team regarding funder contracts and agreements.
- To be an active member of the Finance Services function, building & maintaining good working relationships with other teams across the service and the research community to ensure an understanding of priorities.

Qualifications/Training
Essential
- 2 AS Levels or 1 A Level or NVQ level 3 in a relevant subject area (or equivalent)
Desirable
- AAT qualified
- NVQ level 4 in a relevant subject area
Experience/Knowledge
Essential
- Strong track record of relevant financial administration experience.
- Can demonstrate knowledge of accounting principles and financial matters.
- Excellent knowledge of spreadsheets and other Microsoft packages.
Desirable
- Experience of working in a Higher Education environment.
- Experience of administering students in a Higher Education environment.
- Experience of financial administration of externally funded projects or grants.
