Job Summary

The Management Accounting Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of monthly financial reporting within St John Ambulance. As the custodian of the management accounts process, you will lead the production of monthly income and expenditure reporting, providing clear insight into financial performance for senior stakeholders.

Acting as a key point of contact across Finance, including Finance Business Partners (FBPs), the Financial Controller, and Finance Director, you will ensure financial data is robust, compliant, and supports effective decision-making. You will also oversee balance sheet integrity and play an important role in supporting external audit processes.

As a senior member of the Financial Control function, you will lead a small team and deputise for the Financial Controller when required, contributing to strong financial governance and continuous improvement.

About the Role

As Management Accounting Manager, you will take ownership of the end-to-end monthly management accounts process, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely delivery of financial reporting in line with accounting standards and charity SORP requirements.

You will set and manage the month-end and year-end close timetable, leading review meetings with stakeholders to provide clear explanations of financial performance and key variances. A key part of your role will be maintaining a robust and fully reconciled balance sheet, identifying risks and driving corrective actions where needed.

Working closely with Finance Business Partners, you will provide high-quality financial insight and support, helping them understand performance and improve financial control across their areas. You will also challenge and support stakeholders to ensure accountability and continuous improvement in financial processes.

In addition, you will play a key role in supporting external audit processes, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and maintaining high levels of financial governance.

About You

You are a qualified accountant with strong experience in management accounting, financial reporting, and balance sheet control. You have a solid understanding of accounting principles, standards, and ideally charity SORP, and you take pride in delivering accurate and reliable financial information.

You are confident working with senior stakeholders, with the ability to clearly explain financial performance and provide meaningful insight. You bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving issues.

You are also an effective leader, with experience managing or mentoring teams and driving high performance. Collaborative by nature, you work well across teams, particularly with Finance Business Partners, to ensure strong financial control and accountability.

Above all, you are organised, resilient, and able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high standards and meeting tight deadlines.
