Finance Assistant

We are looking for a part-time Finance Assistant to support the Head of Finance. This role will provide essential administrative and financial support, assisting with day-to-day finance operations and contributing to a range of financial processes.

Place of Work  

The place of work will be in Prescot, Knowsley.

Due to the need of the business this role will predominantly be an office-based role with the option for some hybrid working.

Reporting Relationships  

The post-holder will report to the Head of Finance for Shakespeare North Playhouse.

Salary and Hours of work  

This role is part-time, 16 hours a week (and can be split over 2/3 working days)

This role is a fixed-term role for 12 months.

The part-time salary will be £11,648 per annum, (this would be the full time equivalent of £29,120).   

Job summary  

Key Responsibilities 

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable:Process and match supplier invoices to the purchase order system, raise payments, and manage supplier and customer queries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Bank Reconciliations:Perform regular reconciliations of bank accounts and credit cards, ensuring all transactions are accurately recorded and discrepancies are resolved promptly.
  • Data Entry & Systems:Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including inputting data into the accounting system (Sage 50 Accounts) with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Reporting & Finance Administration:Assist with month-end processes, including preparing reports, supporting VAT returns, audit preparation, and payroll administration.
  • General Finance Support:Provide administrative support to the Head of Finance and contribute to continuous improvement of finance processes and systems.
Personal Specification  
  • Previous experience in a finance or accounts role.
  • Working knowledge of accounting systems (experience with Sage 50 Accounts is desirable).
  • Strong numerical skills with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Good understanding of core finance processes, including accounts payable/receivable and reconciliations.
  • Organised and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • A proactive and flexible approach, with a willingness to support a busy team in a dynamic theatre environment.
  • An interest in, or enthusiasm for, the arts and charitable sector would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrates a high level of integrity, honesty, and discretion, with the ability to handle confidential financial information in a professional and trustworthy manner.
