Sussex Emmaus is recruiting a Finance Assistant to support the Finance Manager with the day-to-day running of the charity’s finance and administrative functions. The role will help ensure accurate financial records are maintained, transactions are processed on time, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met. Working in line with the Emmaus ethos, mission and organisational objectives, the successful candidate will play an important part in supporting the smooth and effective running of the charity.

Sussex Emmaus is a charity that empowers people to overcome homelessness for good. We provide a stable home and life-changing, tailored support for people who are experiencing or are at risk of homelessness.

We see the person and their strengths, helping them rebuild their lives based on the future they want to create. As part of a nationwide movement of Emmaus charities, we equip people with valuable skills, training and work experience, helping them move forward with confidence and achieve their personal goals.

No one’s life should be defined by homelessness. Within our supportive community, people are encouraged to build on their abilities, grow in confidence and self-esteem, and develop a renewed sense of purpose. The people we support are empowered to make a positive contribution to the community around them.

Sussex Emmaus is also a vibrant part of the local area. Our Portslade secondhand superstore offers affordable furniture, household items, clothing, books, toys and more. By giving new life to pre-loved items, we reduce waste and promote reuse, helping the environment while supporting people on their journey out of homelessness.

Across our site, we also run a café, the Outfit vintage clothing shop, The Greenhouse, a bedroom store, a vintage emporium and an upcycling workshop. In addition, we have an Outfit vintage shop on London Road in Brighton.

Emmaus is a unique, secular organisation supporting people affected by homelessness and social exclusion. There are currently over 30 Emmaus communities across the UK, stretching from Glasgow to Dover and Norfolk to South Wales. Collectively, the Emmaus Federation supports more than 1,000 people with experience of homelessness.

To apply for this role, please download the recruitment pack below and send your CV and a one page statement explaining how you meet the person specification to careers@sussexemmaus.co.uk by Friday 15 May 2026.
