About the role

We are looking for a motivated Finance and Support Services Officer to join Sightsavers and play a vital role in supporting our work in Guinea Bissau. Reporting to the Country Director, you will help ensure strong financial management, compliance and smooth country office operations. You will work across budgeting, reporting, payments, audits and donor requirements, while supporting projects and grants and helping to strengthen the financial capacity of our partners — making a real contribution to the delivery of impactful programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure strong financial management, controls and risk management in line with Sightsavers’ Financial Framework
  • Lead budgeting, financial planning, monitoring and month‑end processes for the Country Office
  • Prepare management accounts, trial balance reconciliations and monthly funds requests for Head Office
  • Process and review invoices, payments and journal entries accurately and on time
  • Ensure compliance with local statutory, regulatory and governance requirements
  • Support the preparation of donor financial reports and audit processes
  • Contribute to the development of project proposals and budgets
  • Provide grant management and financial oversight for all Sightsavers‑supported projects
  • Strengthen partners’ financial management capacity and accountability
  • Work closely with finance and programme teams on project reviews, planning and analysis
  • Manage key administrative functions, including procurement, logistics and IT support
  • Support essential HR processes, including payroll, training and statutory deductions

Skills and Experience

The Finance and Support Services Officer will be an organised, proactive and detail focused professional who enjoys working in a varied role and contributing to meaningful change. They will bring strong financial and operational experience, a good understanding of compliance and controls, and the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners. With a practical, solutions focused approach, they will be comfortable managing competing priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy and accountability.

The ideal candidate will be someone who values teamwork, integrity and continuous improvement, and who is motivated by Sightsavers’ mission and values. Jobholder Requirements

Essential

 

  • A relevant professional accounting qualification, or a bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting or equivalent relevant experience
  • Proven experience in financial management, project or programme support and administration
  • Strong project financial management and data analysis skills
  • Ability to understand and work with budgets, forecasts and financial reports
  • Experience preparing financial information for audits and donor or stakeholder reporting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence to represent Sightsavers with external stakeholders and partners
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Strong IT skills, including Excel, MS Word, email and use of accounting systems
  • Fluency in both Portuguese and English

Desirable

 

  • A master’s degree in finance, Accounting or a related field or relevant experience
  • Experience working in an INGO, audit environment or government organisation
  • Experience supporting partner organisations with financial capacity strengthening
