GWAITH, a new Cardiff-based festival is seeking expressions of interest for potential new trustees to join our board ahead of launching in 2028.
Focused on harnessing the rich cohort of performance makers and performers living in Cardiff and Wales, GWAITH takes audiences on joyrides of design & music driven storytelling, presenting puppetry and commissioning productions of opera in is broadest terms.
GWAITH will be a new opportunities engine, commissioning and presenting a robust and varied program of small to mid-scale productions and pop-up performances across two weeks in Cardiff that will be then tour across Wales, the UK, and in future iterations internationally – with ambition to develop site-responsive and large-scale co-commissions in future years. The festival will engage broad, unexpected local audiences alongside national traditional opera and performance goers through a programming strategy that focuses on meeting audiences both in the everyday and in the unexpected.
We are looking for people who can contribute to GWAITH’s initial realization and future planning through their skills, knowledge and networks in support of the delivery of our mission to generate greater opportunity for Wales-based creatives, performers, technicians and makers. We seek board members who are energized by our mission and are wanting to “get stuck-in”, lending their expertise and networks to our small team to move the festival into fruition.
We particularly want to hear from people with experience in
- the governance of charitable organisations, and from those with an understanding of policy contexts for bodies based in Wales
- financial and business management
- marketing and audience development
- establishing networks in fundraising and development for performance and opera
- relevant event and festival management
- establishing networks for the commissioning, co-producing and touring of productions
- designing, directing, conducting, composing, performing, or making live performance
- the private sector with a personal interest in the expansion of opportunities for Wales-based performance makers and the development and widening of design and music driven storytelling as an artform
We welcome applications from a range of experiences and diverse backgrounds to bring varied perspectives on the Opera, Puppertry and the wider Arts sector. We are also interested in hearing from those in a younger demographic (20-30 year olds) who may not fit the above listed experiences but are eager to become involved and develop their own experiences by working with other board members and our team.
GWAITH is currently a Community Interest Company with intention to transition to a charity once the criteria are met.
