Additional Needs Practitioner Project Worker 1
Description of Service:
The new service is seeking an additional needs practitioner to join the team. The Additional needs Practitioner will be in place to support Children and their families with Additional needs through organising themed surgeries as well as offer group and one to one support.
The service will work alongside other services within Families First.
Work will take place at a range of locations throughout the locality and will be flexible in order to be able to provide a service during evenings and weekends as needed.
Family Wellbeing Practitioner (Project Worker 1), Barnardo's Cyfle Wellbeing Service – initially based at Cyfle Westbourne Centre, but working across the Denbighshire Locality.
Job Purpose:
To provide specific family support interventions for families with a disabled child living in Denbighshire. Based on a key working model, the aim will be to offer early interventions to families by providing parental support, advice and signposting as well as some direct services to children and young people.
Core Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide direct services to parents of disabled children and their families in accordance with the aims of the Service.
- To work as part of the wider Wellbeing Team establishing a range of provision to support families, including the delivery of training packages.
- To support parents to build on their strengths and improve their parenting capacity.
- To work alongside other professionals and agencies to ensure the welfare of the child/children.
Job Activities:
- To provide support to vulnerable families referred through and meeting the criteria of the Denbighshire Families First criteria.
- To deliver structured interventions in response to the identified needs of parents, either on a 1:1 or group basis.
- To manage/facilitate structured programmes such as CYGNET and parent drop-ins; delivering a range of flexible services and activities to enhance parents' ability to parent.
- To visit children and families in their home environment, in order to support them with strategies learnt within the interventions provided.
- Undertake initial introductory visits with families, if requested to do so.
- To liaise with other service providers in order to facilitate access by parents to specialised help.
- To ensure that the service provision for children takes account of children's individual needs including their ethnic origin, culture, religion and language.
- To contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and review of the service with service users according to the agreed standards and targets.
- To promote and support inclusive and anti-discriminatory practice.
- To work in partnership with parents to empower them and to enable them to participate as fully as they would wish within the service.
- To undertake record keeping and report writing within the frameworks set by the service.
- Attend any meetings requested to provide feedback on the progress made of the child or family members,
- To adhere to Barnardo's and Project policies including Child Protection, Equal Opportunities, Confidentiality, Care and Control and Health & Safety.
- To receive and contribute to regular supervision including participation in the identification and meeting of own training and development needs.
- To work closely with the Voice and Influence worker to support families to have their voice heard and to enable their voice to shape the design and delivery of the service.
- To work co-operatively with other relevant agencies to ensure effective services are provided for children and families.
- To work within Barnardo's Basis and Values.
- To undertake such other task relevant to the post.
Specific Essential Requirements unless otherwise stated:
- Experience of working with disabled children and/or their families
- Experience of planning and working with parents
- Experience of partnership working.
- Experience of facilitating programmes – desirable
- Experience of supervising volunteers or students – desirable
- Understanding of children's developmental needs
- Good communication skills with children and adults.
- Ability to identify and respond to individual children's physical, emotional and educational needs.
- Ability to respond appropriately to Child Protection concerns.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Commitment to partnership with parents.
- Commitment to anti-discriminatory and inclusive practice.
- Commitment to learning and development.
