At Haven House Children's Hospice, we support babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, helping them and their families make the most of every moment together. We're looking for a compassionate, experienced and motivated Family Support Worker to join our Family Support Team.
This is an opportunity to build meaningful relationships with children, young people and families, providing emotional, practical and social support throughout their journey with Haven House.
Hours: Part-time 3 days per week (21 hours).
Salary: £32,126
About the role
As a Family Support Worker, you will work alongside families to help them navigate complex health, education and social care systems, ensuring they receive the support they need when they need it most.
Working closely with colleagues across the hospice and external partners, you will:
- Provide emotional, practical and social support to children, young people and their families.
- Advocate for families, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are understood.
- Support families to access benefits, grants and community resources.
- Manage an allocated caseload, working collaboratively with health, education and social care professionals.
- Deliver safeguarding supervision to colleagues, helping to promote reflective practice and a strong safeguarding culture across the organisation.
- Support family participation and co-production, ensuring the experiences of children, young people and families help shape our services.
No two days are the same. You'll work with compassion, professionalism and curiosity to help families navigate some of the most challenging times in their lives.
About you
We are looking for someone who is:
- Has experience working with children, young people and families within health, social care, education or the voluntary sector.
- Has a strong understanding of safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
- Is confident working across organisational boundaries and building positive relationships with professionals and partner agencies.
- Has experience supporting families experiencing grief, loss and bereavement.
- Is passionate about family-centred care and improving outcomes for children and young people.
- Is an excellent communicator with the ability to build trusting, compassionate relationships.
- Thrives as part of a multidisciplinary team while also working independently.
Experience within children's palliative care or hospice services would be welcomed but is not essential.
