We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic estates operative to assist the team with the general condition, maintenance, and upkeep of all the school’s infrastructure, which includes the King’s College School buildings and grounds.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • upkeep of hard surfaces, footpaths, and roadways, using the road sweeper and jet wash
  • undertaking minor repair tasks, particularly related to signs, fixtures, and fittings
  • keeping the gardens and footpaths clear and free from litter
  • managing and disposal of waste
  • accessing the site maintenance ticketing system to pick up tasks
  • general support for events and activities
  • assisting
    • external contractors with appropriate tasks
    • with routine maintenance of the school
    • minibuses
    • with the maintenance of carpets and furniture
    • with room changes and clearing rooms
    • with fire emergencies by carrying out duties
    • as set out in the school’s policies
    • emergency situations e.g. school closures due
    • to adverse weather conditions
    • seasonal work including gritting and snow clearance
    • other departments within the Estates team
  • undertaking general duties and dealing with estates issues as directed by the site manager
  • maintaining gardens and lawns as instructed
Wimbledon Common Preparatory School

The estates operative will support Wimbledon Common Preparatory School for two days per week, helping to maintain a clean, safe and well‑presented site.

Duties will include:
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well‑presented school site
  • Carry out daily site inspections
  • Upkeep of grounds and playground areas
  • Set up the hall and assist with lunch arrangements
  • Provide practical support during drop‑off, pick‑up and school events
  • Complete weekly perimeter cleaning and basic maintenance tasks
  • Carry out gardening duties and minor repairs
  • Provide ad‑hoc support for assemblies, workshops, performances and sports events
The successful candidate will have:
  • a logical approach to solving problems
  • the ability to mend machinery and make small repairs
  • the ability to work well as part of a team
  • the ability to organise your own workload and meet deadlines
  • a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work
  • the ability to work without supervision and prioritise workload
  • basic IT skills
