Vacancies

Estate & Facilities Manager

Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire Full Time (35 hours per week) Salary: £36,000 – £39,000 + 12.5% pension contribution and other benefits

This is a unique opportunity to bring your knowledge of buildings and facilities management to our beautiful countryside location where world-famous sculptor, Henry Moore, lived and created his great works – and in an engaging, varied role where no two days are the same!

Reporting to the Head of Visitor Engagement & Operations, this vital role oversees the care, maintenance and efficient running of historical and new buildings, their associated plant and equipment, a small portfolio of let cottages, and the effective management of the gardens and 72-acre rural estate.

With responsibility for the safety and security of employees, visitors and the collections, this post also supports the Foundation’s sustainability agenda, while driving operational efficiency, managing tendering and procurement processes, and working to budgets.

Our ideal candidate will:

  • be able to demonstrate a good knowledge of buildings and facilities management
  • be familiar with building management systems, including HVAC, to the level of identifying faults to specialist contractors
  • be self-motivated with a strong aptitude for problem solving and attention to detail
  • have a commitment to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement
  • be tactful and diplomatic, with excellent negotiation and communication skills

Engagement Assistant

Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire Part time, fixed term and casual zero hours contracts available Pay: £13.45 per hour

Engagement Assistants are part of the seasonal team at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens. They welcome visitors, help to look after the artworks and collections on display, as well as engaging with our visitors and responding to their questions about Henry Moore and his life and work. They assist with engagement activities as required and do their utmost to make the experience of visiting our location as enjoyable as possible.

Engagement Assistants are responsible for:

  • Welcoming visitors to Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, including schools, groups and personal tours
  • Providing accessibility and special needs assistance as required
  • Assisting with workshops, events and learning activities for school, family and community groups
  • Helping to ensure the security of the buildings and contents/works of art whilst open to the public
  • Ensuring all health and safety at work and safeguarding procedures are followed to help keep our facilities safe for the benefit of all employees and visitors
  • Recording and reporting any damages or incidents to the Visitor Services Manager/Duty Manager in accordance with procedures in the Seasonal Staff Handbook
  • Ensuring that all spaces are always presented to the highest possible standards in terms of cleanliness, tidiness and the presentation of visitor information. This may include checking toilets and cleaning as necessary; checking bins in public areas and emptying as required
  • Carrying out any other duties that may be reasonably required

Café Supervisor

Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire Full time, fixed term (1 April to 25 October) Pay: £14.45 per hour

The Café Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day running of the Visitor Centre café. This includes stock checking and ordering, time tabling staff, and ensuring strict adherence to food hygiene standards.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead daily operations and ensure smooth service flow from open to close
  • Maintain high levels of customer interaction and ensure staff are meeting customer needs
  • Maintain high levels of record keeping regarding traceability, ordering and deliveries, fridge and freezer temperatures
  • Maintain a safe working environment with a high level of cleanliness in accordance with food hygiene health and safety regulations
  • Ensure stock is stored and rotated correctly as per the food safety guidelines and café requirements
  • Handle cash floats and reconciliation, ensuring POS is accurate and effective
  • Ensure defects and equipment breakdowns are reported urgently and following correct procedure
  • Monitor stock control and place relevant top up orders where necessary
  • Conduct pre-shift briefings, report operational feedback and facilitate scheduling of staff
  • Identify staff development needs related to catering requirements
  • Train and support other team members to ensure they perform at their best
  • Demonstrate commitment to team effort across the Visitor and Engagement department
  • Oversee the supply of food and beverages for group bookings and small events
  • Any other duties that may be reasonably required

Catering Assistant

Henry Moore Studios & Gardens, Hertfordshire Part time, fixed term or casual zero hours contracts available Pay: £13.45 per hour

Catering Assistants work closely with the Catering Supervisor on the day-to-day operations of the Visitor Centre café, ensuring it meets a high level of cleanliness and food hygiene standards, as well as providing excellent and efficient customer service.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high levels of customer service
  • Maintain a safe working environment with a high level of cleanliness in accordance with food hygiene health and safety regulations
  • Take and fulfil orders at the till, including preparing hot beverages and food
  • Using the POS system, processing payments, cash handling and assisting with till reconciliations
  • Ensuring that all spaces are always presented to the highest possible standards in terms of cleanliness, tidiness and the presentation of visitor information and supplies
  • Ensure café displays are well presented and regularly replenished
  • Contribute wholly to team effort across the Visitor and Engagement department
  • To assist with preparation of food and beverages for group bookings and small events

Volunteering

Volunteering with one of our teams offers first-hand insight into the work of one of the world’s most notable sculptors, and the chance to experience the day-to-day operation of an international arts organisation. Our volunteers help us to continue Henry Moore’s mission to encourage public appreciation of the visual arts.

There are currently no vacancies for volunteers at the Henry Moore Institute in Leeds.

Volunteer gardeners

Recruiting volunteer gardeners to help maintain the sculpture gardens at Henry Moore Studios & Gardens.

The gardens were designed by Moore and his wife Irina, they are predominantly rural in appearance and comprise approximately 70 acres of ponds, hedgerows, orchards, sheep fields, woodlands, lawns and a small kitchen garden.

Our staff are based across our two sites in Yorkshire and Hertfordshire. Most roles allow for some level of hybrid working.
