Birmingham LGBT is recruiting two part-time youth workers to work with the transgender, non-binary, and gender-questioning young people aged 13 to 18 who attend our Emerge Youth Group.

Both posts are identical, working 8 hours per month (4 hours on 2 Saturdays). We will consider applications to work 16 hours per month (4 hours on 4 Saturdays), please state this clearly in your application form. Otherwise, it will be assumed that you are applying for 8 hours per month.

The Emerge Youth Group meets on Saturdays, in a way that prioritises their safety and personal development, both in group work and one-to-one settings. The workers will help to organise the group’s programme of activities and to provide support and information to its members.

The successful applicants will join a motivated and enthusiastic team based at the Birmingham LGBT Centre in central Birmingham.

Terms:

Remuneration: £13.29 per hour.

Working Hours: 8 hours per month on Saturdays, usually two four-hour sessions per month. We will consider applications to work 16 hours per month, i.e. four four-hour sessions. If you are interested in working 16 hours per month, please state this on the application form.

Person Specification

  Essential Criteria 1. Relevant experience in youth work provision and delivery in LGBT voluntary sector and/or mainstream services (through work experience and/or education). 2. Experience of facilitating groups of young people (through work experience and/or education). 3. Experience of working in a team and effectively managing relationships, teamwork, shared responsibility, conflict, and other team issues. 4.An understanding of the issues facing transgender, non-binary and gender-questioning young people.

5. An awareness of current legislation and safeguarding procedures relating to children and young people. 6. Clear understanding of the nature of confidentiality and boundary issues and the need for strict adherence to our confidentiality policy. 7. Understanding and commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. 8.Strong IT skills and able to use Microsoft Office, email, internet, calendar management, social media and other digital platforms.

9. Ability to use monitoring and evaluation systems effectively. 10. Good interpersonal and communication skills relevant to a variety of audiences and stakeholders including a person-centered approach to working with LGBT communities   Desirable Criteria

Specific experience of working within a trans youth group setting.
12. Qualification in youth and community work, social work or other relevant fields (or currently working towards achieving this).
