Are you passionate about education and wildlife? Join us as an Educator and help shape
the future of Marwell and our growing education programme! This full-time role (35 hours
per week) offers the chance to engage with diverse audiences.

This role will work closely with colleagues within a small team of Zoo-based Educators to
deliver engaging, fun and high-quality education sessions to children of all ages and
abilities, and other guests as required, throughout the zoo, across the academic year. Our
Education Programme covers nursery, school, college and home education groups, and
the successful candidate will be confident teaching across this age range and taking
responsibility for an allocated area of planning. We are particularly keen to hear from you if
you would like to help us develop our early years offer and/ or our SEND provision.

The successful candidates will have a teaching qualification and experience of lesson
planning and delivery, as well as the ability to read and respond to an audience. A
personal commitment to education, inclusivity and nature connection is also essential.

Role Profile

Job Title: Educator
Benefits: Pension at 5%, 33 days annual leave pro rata inc. Bank Holidays (holiday mostly
to be taken outside of term time)
Hours:  35 hours per week; Monday to Friday – may include occasional weekend and

Reports to: Senior Educator

Role Purpose and Role Dimensions: Working closely with colleagues within a small
team of Zoo-based Educators to deliver engaging, fun and high-quality education to
children of all ages and abilities, and other guests as required. The successful candidate
will be a qualified teacher with experience of planning and delivering learning
opportunities, with inclusivity and SEND accessibility at the heart of what they do. The job
includes some allocated planning responsibilities, including development of lessons and/or
resources, and participation in plans for guest engagement at the zoo.

The Role
•  Deliver Marwell’s education programme to Nursery, school, college and home Ed

groups.

•  Build positive relationships with teachers to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit for

school groups.

•  Engage with general zoo guests as required.
•  Work together with colleagues to ensure education programs run smoothly and

effectively.

•  Planning and development of an allocated area of our education programme.
•  Research zoological and conservation topics and subjects to stay up to date and

support high quality delivery of Marwell’s Education Programme.

•  Play an active role in the team, completing tasks and contributing to the programme’s

success.

•  Adhere to health and safety policy and procedures, identify hazards and undertake

appropriate risk assessments.

•  Work proactively on tasks set by your line manager, ensuring they are delivered

effectively.

•  Participate in annual review of our Education Programme.
•  Create engaging and informative educational materials as needed.

•  Teaching qualification

•  Basic understanding of health and safety requirements
•  Ability to time-manage, prioritise and plan
•  Thrives in a collaborative environment
•  Feels at home in the natural world & loves being outside in all seasons

Desirable
•  Experience of working with a wide range of audiences (children and adults)
•  Experience of teaching across a variety of abilities and leading with inclusivity and

accessibility

•  Experience in similar settings to Marwell Zoo
•  A  genuine  passion  for  nature  conservation,  demonstrated  through  involvement  in

conservation project(s)
•  Practical outdoor skills
