Could you inspire and mentor a team of dedicated teaching staff to change lives?

Here at Sense, we support people with complex disabilities to live the life they choose.

Sense College East is an independent specialist college for students with complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, working from pre-entry level up to Level 1 across our 8 sites in Suffolk, Bedford, Norfolk, Peterborough, Luton, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Birmingham. We're looking for an Education Pathway Leader to lead on SEND practice development across our curriculum pathways, giving specialist guidance to teaching teams and mentoring new and trainee tutors. You'll complete a recognised qualification to deliver positive behaviour support training across the college, and take a lead on reviewing and developing our use of technology in the classroom.

This is a permanent role working 22.5 hours over 3 days a week, paying £22,639.80 per year (pro rata of £37,733 full-time equivalent). It's a hybrid position based at our Hampton office in Peterborough, with regular travel to all 8 college sites, so you'll need to be a driver with access to your own vehicle.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • A relevant degree and a Level 5 or above teaching qualification
  • At least 2 years' experience working with students with a learning disability and sensory loss, plus relevant teaching experience in a specialist setting
  • Experience managing and developing staff, including supervision and CPD
  • A sound understanding of the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework and the SEND Code of Practice
  • Experience implementing positive behavioural support programmes
  • A Certificate in BSL is desirable but not essential

This role will include:

  • Providing professional specialist support and direction to the College Education team
  • Mentoring and supporting new and trainee tutors, in person and online
  • Monitoring curriculum effectiveness through observations and programme reviews
  • Ensuring effective use of Individual Learning Plans, working with staff to set and track student targets
