JOB DESCRIPTION: EDUCATION MANAGER [MATERNITY COVER] Salary: £35k-£38k Application Deadline: Wednesday 11th March Interviews: W/C 16th March Contract Type: Fixed Term 12months – Maternity Cover Hours: 40 hours per week 860 teaching hours per year minus 400 hours remission = 460 teaching hours per annum Teaching will be spread across Education, Participation and Outreach Programmes as needed The post may include occasional additional evening and weekend work for which Time Off in Lieu will be given. The additional duty's role is based at The Garage but may involve some travel across the region and working at partner sites. Leave 20 days per year + Bank Holidays - to be taken in line with public and centre holiday periods Reporting To: Executive Director Responsible For: Education Programme Programmes Core Teaching Staff Education Programme Freelance Artists and Teaching Staff Description of Role: Leading and managing our Education Department which includes our Dance & Drama GCSE provision, our Alternative Education provision, our Outreach and Schools activities. Working with our Executive Director on our Primary Arts-Based Learning programme. Delivery a range of classes on the Education and Participation programmes of work. Managing a team of core and freelance delivery staff. MAIN DUTIES PLANNING LEARNING PROGRAMMES • To lead the team in devising and delivering the curriculum and timetable in such a way that it maximizes pupil achievement • To establish realistic learning objectives which meet individual and group needs • To identify appropriate outcomes of learning programmes, ensuring effective content coverage and integration • To prepare session/lesson plans utilising a variety of teaching/training methods, accommodating different learning styles • To design, develop and implement administrational systems and procedures and lead the team in adhering to these • To keep abreast of practical and theoretical developments and update material and lesson plans accordingly • To continuously monitor trends in education and industry and review course structure and content accordingly • To undertake the Exams Officer role for our qualifications • To ensure EHCPs are being used to inform individual learning plans DELIVERY OF TEACHING AND LEARNING • To teach on programmes, managing the learning process effectively, guiding and supporting learners • To conduct tutorial and audition preparation activities • To identify progression routes suited to individual learners and support them in their application and audition process • To use a variety of teaching/training methods to engage learners, to convey information, and to encourage creativity and motivation • To provide effective learning support, giving learners opportunities to develop and practice their skills • To encourage learners to take responsibility for their own learning • To work with colleagues and with outside contacts to deliver learning programmes • To be responsible for the effective handling of inappropriate behaviour, misconduct or academic malpractice • To be accountable to the Head of Centre for the quality and efficiency of teaching within the department • To lead the team in preparation and maintenance of all procedures and materials required for good working practice and in relation to internal and external verification • To work with others to monitor, evaluate and improve the effectiveness of learning sessions, including the use of lesson observations DEVELOPMENT • To set realistic targets for each financial year and collect, monitor report outputs and outcomes • To manage the relationships with referral agencies, schools and commissioners (as appropriate), ensuring positive relationships, investment growth and brand loyalty • To ensure effective and evidenced delivery of funded projects • To plan for, support and manage the integration of vulnerable young people • To line manage the Core and External teaching staff to ensure effective delivery of access and inclusion activities and successful progression of participants into other activities at The Garage NETWORKING AND PARTNERSHIPS • To be the organisation's point of contact for knowledge, best practise and contacts with local schools, colleges and other partner organisations • To develop and maintain positive partnerships with Commissioners • To work in partnership with SENCO’s and SLT members in partner schools, alongside EHCP Co-Ordinators from Local Authority Partners to prepare education programmes and the integration of learners into them PROJECT MANAGEMENT AND MONITORING • To develop, negotiate, agree and manage SLAs with Commissioners • To develop, negotiate, agree and manage contracts with external teaching staff, freelance artists, support workers and external contractors • To manage the regular collection and review of feedback, ensuring action is taken to maximise satisfaction and achievement • To provide verbal and written monitoring and evaluation reports to stakeholders FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AND GENERAL DUTIES • To manage relevant budgets effectively, ensuring on target delivery. • To assist the Executive Producer in effective financial planning and forecast performance • To support training and CPD within the wider Garage team, leading on aspects of training from time to time within the annual training cycle • To support other members of The Garage team in the effective and safe delivery of projects, events and performances • To work in accordance with all The Garage's policies including Health & Safety; Data Protection; Child Protection and Equal Opportunities.
