ABOUT CITY HARVEST
Est. 2014, City Harvest London food charity rescues nutritious surplus food from farms,
manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers, and delivers it, for free, to over 130,000 people a week via
organisations feeding those facing food poverty. Our HQ depot is in Acton, with satellite sites in New
Covent Garden Market, and New Spitalfields Market. City Harvest rescues food, people, and the
planet by diverting food waste and providing life-changing support to communities across London.

Distributing free food for more than 1.3 million meals a month, our fleet of vans deliver to food
banks, homeless shelters, hostels, soup kitchens, mental health charities, projects supporting the
elderly and socially isolated, social pantries, community kitchens, refugee hostels, schools and
nurseries, family centres and domestic abuse refuges.

ABOUT THE ROLE
The Warehouse Operative + Driver reports to the Supply Chain General Manager and will support the
day-to-day operations of our New Covent Garden Market site. It is a hands-on, varied role ensuring
fresh produce is collected, sorted and prepared safely, and delivered to our recipients efficiently. You
will work closely with the rest of the team and volunteers to maintain a smooth operation, high
standards of food safety and minimal waste.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

•  Collect surplus donations of fresh fruit and vegetables directly from market traders ensuring

produce is of suitable quality for redistribution.

•  Build and maintain positive working relationships with market traders.
•  Store, sort and prepare produce for redistribution, following food safety and handling

guidelines.

•  Assist with packing and loading of orders for community partner recipients.
•  Deliver redistributed produce to community partners in our City Harvest branded vehicle.
•  Monitor stock levels and record all inbound and outbound volumes in a timely manner.
•  Be mindful of waste and help balance incoming produce with redistribution capacity.
•  Support volunteers and provide guidance when needed to maintain smooth operations.
•  Maintain a clean, safe and organised warehouse environment and vehicle, adhering to health

& safety procedures.

ABOUT YOU
You are reliable, hands-on and comfortable working in a busy, practical environment. You have an
awareness of food safety and health & safety standards and are able to follow procedures carefully.
You work well as part of a team and can communicate effectively with colleagues, volunteers and
donors. You are flexible and willing to help where needed to ensure the smooth running of the site,
managing your time effectively across collection, sorting and delivery tasks. You are motivated by the
charity’s mission to reduce food waste and support the local community.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

•  Full UK driving licence (with entitlement to drive a 3.5-tonne vehicle)
•  1+ years’ experience in a warehouse environment.
•  Awareness of health and safety procedures, food safety standards, hygiene and safe handling

of fresh produce.

•  Ability to follow instructions accurately and work as part of a team but able to work

independently and take initiative when required.

•  Physically fit and able to lift, carry and move boxes of produce safely.
•  Problem-solving skills and positive, proactive "can-do" attitude.
