Job Description and Person Specification for Drama Teacher Starting September 2026 To carry out the professional duties of a teacher as specified in the Hornsby House contract. In accordance with these terms and conditions, teachers are responsible to the Headmaster to: • Promote the Aims, Values and Policies of the School. To actively support the School’s Equal Opportunities, Disability and Behaviour Policies to strengthen the ethos of the School and maintain discipline and high standards of conduct and appearance. • Promote the well-being, health and happiness of the children, fostering positive self- esteem and holding high expectations of children’s work and behaviour. • Develop and maintain high standards of classroom management and organisation, to provide a stimulating environment for the children. • Promote and implement all aspects of school policy within Drama. • Work enthusiastically towards the long term aims of the drama department and the school. • Take a keen interest in their own Professional Development, including attending relevant INSET and reporting back to staff. • Be prepared to take an extra-curricular activity after school as appropriate. • To organise trips, visiting experts and workshops. • Promote and foster good relationships amongst the staff. • To provide artistic direction on school productions when required. • Cover for absent colleagues and to be part of the duty rotas for the supervision of the children, both at playtime and lunchtime. • To attend Parents’ Evenings, occasionally Saturday or evening activities and other important commitments as specified by the Headmaster. • Work closely with all members of staff to develop and extend the teaching of their subject throughout the school. • Promote high standards of teaching and the setting of realistic goals for pupils. • Ensure that the teaching of their subject is adequately resourced using the allocated funds effectively. In conjunction with the Head of drama: • Update systems of record keeping which will monitor the progress of individual pupils. • Prepare drama reports for each student in accordance with school policy. • Plan and match work to the children’s individual abilities and skills both termly and daily according to the scheme of work provided. • Apply assessment information and student records to support the setting of appropriate and achievable targets for all pupils in drama. • Work closely with the Gifted and Talented Coordinator and Head of Learning Development and SENCo to identify children with specific needs and ensure that the teaching meets the needs of all children.
