Main purpose and scope of the job

  • To promote the training package, to build and maintain effective relationships with general practice teams, and to recruit local general practices to participate in the training package.
  • To provide in-house training for general practice teams on understanding, recognising and responding to domestic abuse.
  • To provide ongoing specialist advice and support around domestic abuse to practice teams.
  • To encourage general practice health professionals to ask patients about their experience of abuse and respond, record, safety check and refer.
  • To provide specialist, individual and needs-led advocacy and support to patients who are or have experienced domestic abuse who are referred from participating practices, and to provide onward referrals where appropriate.
  • To collect and collate performance and monitoring data for reporting purposes and also with a view to further embedding and developing the programme locally.
  • To work in partnership with Southampton IDVA service to deliver Pippa (Prevention, Intervention and Public Protection Alliance) providing initial advice, information and guidance to victims, professionals, and family members. To participate in the delivery of the on-call out of hours on a rota basis
  • Work with those experiencing domestic abuse to increase their personal safety, and that of any children, and inform them of their rights and options in terms of housing, legal and welfare rights
