    The role

    NEBOSH is looking for a

    Director of ITwho will provide leadership and direction to the NEBOSH IT Engineering & DevOps and Service Management functions, driving the modernisation and strategic evolution of the IT landscape.

    The Director of IT will be accountable for:

    Strategic Leadership –Design and implement a robust IT department strategy aligning DevOps, infrastructure, cloud platform engineering, data engineering, software development, QA testing, and service management to NEBOSH's business objectives.IT Infrastructure & Cloud –Oversee the design, deployment, and optimisation of NEBOSH's on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure to support global delivery of services.Cybersecurity –Maintain high standards of security, availability, and resilience for systems supporting NEBOSH's charitable operations and international partners.Data Engineering –Direct the development and governance of robust data pipelines and analytics solutions, enabling evidence-based decision-making and ensuring compliance with UK and international data protection regulations.Software Development & QA –Oversee agile software development and DevOps practices, delivering innovative digital products and services for international learners and partners, with rigorous QA methodologies and automated testing.IT Service Management –Provide responsive, accessible, and reliable IT support for NEBOSH staff, learning partners, learners, and stakeholders worldwide, monitoring service levels and driving effective incident and problem management.Team Leadership –Lead and motivate diverse hybrid teams with onshore and offshore members, fostering collaboration, professional growth, and an inclusive culture reflecting NEBOSH's charitable values.Budget & Vendor Management –Optimise IT budgets (£1m–£10m), negotiate with vendors and partners, and support NEBOSH's operational efficiency and growth.

    The Director of IT will deputise for the Chief Information Officer on IT matters including governance, production of reports, representation at leadership meetings, and interfaces with other functional areas of the business.

    Where will you likely be at the moment?
    • You are an experienced senior IT leader with 10+ years of progressive leadership experience, ideally within the charity, education, or international sectors.
    • You have a proven track record of successfully leading hybrid teams across borders, cultures, and time zones, delivering secure, scalable, and reliable IT solutions.
    • You have deep technical expertise across DevOps, cloud engineering (Azure, AWS or GCP), IT infrastructure, data engineering, software development, and IT service management frameworks such as ITIL.
    • You have demonstrable experience of managing significant IT budgets and vendor relationships at scale and can drive value from complex supplier contracts.
    • You have a strategic mindset combined with the ability to translate technology vision into practical delivery, championing Agile ways of working and continuous improvement.
    • You hold a Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline, an MBA or can demonstrate equivalent experience.
