Welcome to The King’s Foundation, Worcester

The King’s Foundation is made up of three schools:
King’s Senior School and two preparatory schools,
King’s St Alban’s and King’s Hawford. Together,
they form a vibrant and nurturing educational
community.

King’s Senior School educates approximately
850 pupils aged 11–18 on our stunning city-centre
campus. Sharing this site is King’s St Alban’s,
a thriving prep school for around 150 pupils
aged 2–11. Just north of the city, in the beautiful
Worcestershire countryside, King’s Hawford
provides a dynamic learning environment for
approximately 260 pupils aged 2–11. All three schools
are united under a single governing body, ensuring
a cohesive vision and shared values across the
Foundation.

At the core of the King’s Foundation is a steadfast
commitment to delivering an outstanding education
which is made possible by our exceptional staff.
We are proud to foster a strong, supportive, and
inclusive professional community built on trust,
respect, and collaboration.

Our Schools are exciting and rewarding places to
work, and we are delighted that you are considering
joining us. Our professional family includes a wide
range of teaching and support roles, each playing
a vital part in the life of our Foundation. Central to
our ethos is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere,
underpinned by excellent relationships between
staff and pupils who are encouraged to work hard,
play hard, and look after each other.

Our search for the right candidate for this role is
important to us, and we know it is important to
you too. Please take the time to explore the details
within this booklet. If this opportunity strikes
a chord with you, we look forward to receiving
your application, to meeting you in the weeks
ahead, and—if successful—welcoming you to our
community.

Thank you for your interest in King’s Worcester. We
hope this marks the beginning of a fulfilling and
inspiring journey with us.

Ben Charles
Head of Foundation

Introduction to the role

The King’s School, Worcester wishes to appoint an
inspirational Director of Cricket and Teacher of
Physical Education for September 2026. The role
could also suit a Coach with school experience
who is not a qualified teacher, and we welcome
applications from those who fit either criteria.

The Sports Department at King’s

At King’s Worcester we are passionate about sport
and physical activity. We aim to deliver a premium
sporting experience, within an environment of
enjoyment, endeavour, and achievement.

The Department has its own office and classroom
teaching space. Other facilities include two Sports
Halls, an indoor swimming pool, fitness suite and
extensive sports fields, including an all-weather
surface, complemented by the Michael Baker
Boathouse.

The School seeks a professional with both integrity
and compassion. We invite applications from
well-qualified and ambitious individuals who wish
to contribute to our busy and successful sports
department.

Our thriving sports provision for boys and girls
embraces ‘Excellence’ and ‘Sport for All’ and we
encourage all pupils to engage with the many
sporting opportunities available, regardless of
ability.

Applicants should have a willingness to develop
their pedagogical and coaching skills within a
supportive and forward-looking professional
learning community. They will have the ability to
adapt to the needs of pupils while also being a good
team player. Good emotional intelligence and a
sense of humour are essential.

We offer over fifteen different sports at specialist
level in first class facilities with expert coaches.
In addition to our core sports of Rugby, Hockey,
Cricket, Netball, Rowing, Football, Athletics, and
Swimming, we also offer a range of other sports
such as Badminton, Cross-Country, and Fencing.

The standard of our competitive sport is very high
and we are proud to have a significant number of
talented sportspeople playing representatively at
County, Regional and National level.

Our Senior School PE Department is comprised of
the Director of Sport and eight other full or part-
time members of staff. Our Foundation Director of
Sport works closely with the Directors of Sport at
our Senior School and both of our Prep Schools.

Senior School PE staff are involved in teaching
Games at King’s St Alban’s Prep School, and this
provides good continuity of knowledge for the
pupils.

PE at both A-level and GCSE is a popular choice
and, as part of our new Sixth Form Curriculum,
students in the Sixth Form may select the Sports
Leader Award level 3 as their Elective Option.
In Years 7 to 10, PE broadly follows the National
Curriculum and focusses on the acquisition of a
wide range of skills and the promotion of a sense of
enjoyment through Sport and other activity, with an
emphasis upon the importance of fitness.

We are the only school in Worcester with our
own swimming pool and good use is made of this
throughout the PE programme, our co-curriculum
and Swimming Academy.

The School also runs an Athlete Development
Programme that provides support to talented
individuals and supplements the strong coaching,
training and competitive environment that exists at
the School.

Introduction to the role

Cricket at King’s

Cricket has a long tradition of success at King’s
Worcester. Many pupils, past and present, have
represented Worcestershire at all age groups. Recent
players have also been involved in the Super Fours,
England U19s, The Ashes and World Cup.

Both 1st XI’s have a full fixture list and throughout the
season play against a variety of opposition, ranging
from other schools to foreign touring sides, and a
number of local adult teams including a Men’s and
Women’s MCC side. All other age groups will put out
an A and B team on Saturdays, as well as during Games
afternoons.

Coaching is of a very high standard, with external
oaches being brought in to supplement the in-house
provision. Winter nets start in January where both age
group and one-to-one work are undertaken. We run
morning sessions for our selected Academy players
which run from November to March. Winter nets are
open to all cricketers from January onwards.

The School regularly tours with a senior squad and has
visited India and Sri Lanka on a number of occasions.

The role This is a permanent term time only
role commencing September 2026. We are happy to
consider applications from those interested in either
part-time or full-time positions. Please specify your
preference in the supporting statement of your
application. We welcome applications from both
qualified Teachers and Coaches.
