Deputy Stage Manager (My Neighbour Totoro) (1727)

The Royal Shakespeare Company is looking to appoint a Deputy Stage Manager for its production of My Neighbour Totoro at the Gillian Lynne Theatre in Collaboration with NIPPON TV and IMPROBABLE.

This position is offered initially as a fixed term contract until April 2027, commencing on 6 April 2027. (Please note that flexibility may be possible for the right candidate).

As Deputy Stage Manager, you will be on the book for the production as the primary show caller, with responsibility for preparing and maintaining the prompt copy throughout the run of the production.

Accurately noting all script changes, blocking and cue points, and effectively cueing performances, calling to music, as well as teaching the book to the ASM Book Covers as appropriate and covering the Stage Manager when operationally needed.

To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following skills and experience:

  • Experience as a Deputy Stage Manager, for the show running of a large-scale, live theatre production, with a large cast, and multiple automated and manual scenic elements.
  • Previous experience of show calling to music.
  • Previous experience of covering a Stage Manager position, i.e. for holidays and sickness.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to keep calm in pressured situations.

My Neighbour Totoro performs 8 shows a week, on a Tuesday to Sunday schedule, with matinees on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday, at the Gillian Lynne Theatre, London.

Flexible scheduling, during school holidays and over the Christmas Period will be in place.
