You are employed as the Deputy Safeguarding Coordinator for The Co-Mission Churches Trust
and for The Co-Mission Initiative Trust and will be expected to perform the following duties
and tasks:
• Have a working knowledge of the CMCT Safeguarding Policy including the Safer
Recruitment Process so as to meaningfully apply the Policy to specific situations
• Have a working knowledge of and have access to the information/reports/policies/
procedures (CMCT’s ‘Iknowsafeguarding’ platform)
• Support the Coordinator and the CMCT Trustees in maintaining and reviewing CMCT’s
plan for safeguarding
• Have good working knowledge of how to manage safeguarding concerns, allegations or
incidents reported to your organisation
o Receive regular updates about any concerns/incidents/allegations (as and when)
o Support the Coordinator in managing referrals to key safeguarding agencies (e.g.
social services or police) of any incidents or allegations of abuse and harm.
• Feedback to the trustees alongside the Coordinator
• Support the distribution of policies, procedures and safeguarding resources throughout
the organisation
• Provide input on training material and resources, and in time, to deliver training
• Support the Coordinator by acting as a sounding board and by being an understanding
ear
• Be the next port of call if the Coordinator is not able to be contacted / during annual
leave
• Attend specific Designated Safeguarding Lead Training every 2 years
• Assist the Coordinator in respect of safeguarding for The Co-Mission Initiative Trust
events

• Comply with The Co-Mission Churches Trust policies and procedures
• Deepen your relationship with God through personal prayer and Bible study.
• Promote & uphold the reputation of the CMCT churches and Co-Mission.
• Work flexibly to meet the demands of this important role – depending on circumstances,
the workload and weekly hours may vary
Key requirements for the role:
• A realistic view of ministry, leaders, and church life: An understanding that churches,
including church leadership, consist of flawed people. Understanding the need for
Safeguarding and sharing our commitment to grace.
• Prior experience with managing safeguarding and personal concerns would be an
advantage, but not a requirement.
• Wisdom and Discernment: Concerns/incidents are often nuanced and require thought,
communication between Safeguarding lead and Deputy, and at times seeking advice from
CSS (Christian Safeguarding Services).
• Non-reactionary: Some concerns/incidents are difficult to digest. Being able to read/listen
to concerns calmly, to take time to think, pray, talk with the Safeguarding Coordinator. Not
letting emotion or personal relationship interfere with Safeguarding decisions.
• Confidentiality: Not discussing safeguarding matters with others. Realizing there can be
‘cross over’ in this role and church life. The ability to somewhat compartmentalize the two
and interact at church or social settings in a way that don’t compromise safeguarding
knowledge.
• Good Communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to respond to sensitive emails
and phone calls thoughtfully and professionally.
• Basic Technical skills. Ability to learn and implement iknow Safeguarding (safeguarding
concern reporting platform). Understanding that admin processes might change over
time.
• An ability to work independently with diligence and a focus on delivering outcomes.

Doctrinal Distinctives.
This role may particularly suit a member of one of the CMCT churches, but this is not a
requirement.
