Deputy Manager - Residential Care
We are seeking an experienced Deputy Manager – Residential Care to join our leadership team in a dual-home role across two residential care homes on our Betty and Asher Loftus Campus in Friern Barnet. This is an exciting opportunity to support the leadership and operational management of two well-established residential services, helping to deliver outstanding, person-centred care while leading and developing high-performing teams.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated care professional to step into a senior leadership position where you will help shape high-quality, person-centred care across two established residential homes.
You will work closely with the Registered Manager to provide visible, compassionate leadership, ensuring consistency, strong team support, and outstanding outcomes for residents across both services.
This post is fixed term for 12 months.
Hours: 39 per week (includes weekends, evenings and on-call duties with TOIL)
About the Service
This role provides operational leadership across two residential care homes located on our Betty and Asher Loftus Campus, with responsibility for a combined total of over 100 residents. The homes provide high-quality residential and dementia care within a supportive, person-centred environment, promoting dignity, independence and wellbeing.
Working across both services, the Deputy Manager will play a key role in ensuring consistent standards of care, supporting and developing teams, embedding best practice, and driving continuous improvement. About the Role
The Deputy Manager plays a key leadership role supporting the Registered Manager in the operational delivery across 2 of our residential care homes based on our Betty and Asher Loftus Campus.
This is a dual-home leadership role, requiring the ability to lead across two distinct services while ensuring consistently high standards of care, compliance and culture. You will provide visible leadership across both homes, support teams on a day-to-day basis, and deputise for the Registered Manager when required.
The role is central to ensuring residents experience safe, personalised and high-quality care, and that teams are well supported, developed and empowered.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Management
- Provide visible leadership across both homes, ensuring consistency of standards and approach
- Support Care Managers and Team Leaders with supervision, coaching and performance management
- Promote a positive, inclusive and values-led culture
- Support recruitment, induction, rota planning, absence management and workforce deployment
- Ensure safe staffing levels are maintained across both services
Resident Care & Quality
- Oversee delivery of high-quality, person-centred care across both homes
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments and documentation are accurate and up to date
- Monitor care quality through audits, observation and feedback
- Drive continuous improvement and share best practice across sites
- Support preparation for CQC inspections and regulatory compliance
Operational Management (Dual Site)
- Ensure smooth day-to-day running of both residential care homes.
- Support admissions, transitions, occupancy and pre-admission assessments
- Ensure a consistent resident and family experience across both homes
- Maintain effective communication between sites and teams
- Attend internal and external stakeholder meetings as required
Compliance, Safeguarding & Risk
- Promote a strong safeguarding culture across both homes
- Ensure compliance with legislation, policies and procedures
- Support incident management, complaints and investigations
- Ensure learning is embedded into practice across both services
- Support night visits and wider operational assurance activity
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure safe, clean and well-maintained environments across both homes
- Monitor health & safety, fire safety and environmental compliance
- Work collaboratively with support services including maintenance and housekeeping
Financial & Resource Management
- Support effective staffing budgets and rota efficiency
- Monitor agency usage and support cost-effective service delivery
- Contribute to efficient use of operational resources
Deputising Responsibilities
- Act as Registered Manager in their absence across both homes
- Participate in on-call rota arrangements
- Ensure continuity of leadership and safe service delivery
Continuous Improvement
- Drive innovation and quality improvement across both services
- Share learning and best practice between homes
- Support implementation of new systems and ways of working
Essential Requirements
- NVQ Level 4/5 or equivalent in Health and Social Care
- Experience in residential care leadership
- Experience working with older people and dementia care
- Strong understanding of CQC regulations and safeguarding
- Experience of supervision, performance management and coaching
- Experience in rota management and workforce planning
- Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple sites
- Strong leadership, communication and organisational skills
- IT literate (care systems and Microsoft Office)
Desirable Requirements
- Level 5 Leadership qualification (or working towards)
- Dementia care qualification
- Experience supporting CQC inspections
- Experience in multi-site or dual-home leadership roles
- Experience working with external stakeholders (Local Authority / ICB)
