Dental Nurse Apprentice

This vacancy is for an Apprentice Dental Nurse based in Clitheroe.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to undertake valuable work experience dealing internal and external customers with whilst gaining on the job qualifications.

We are looking for a motivated, friendly and enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Apprentice Dental Nurse.

Full training will be provided as you work towards a recognised dental nursing qualification and eligibility for GDC registration.

You will work alongside experienced dental professionals in a modern, well-equipped practice, supporting dentists and dental hygienists. The role will involve chairside assistance, patient care, surgery preparation and a range of administrative duties appropriate to the role.

We are looking for someone who is hardworking, reliable and well-presented, with a genuine commitment to high standards of patient care. You should take responsibility for your duties and be able to work effectively both independently and as part of the team.

What you need when applying for the Apprentice Dental Nurse Role.

  • Good IT skills, including confidence using Microsoft Office, with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new software and digital systems.

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent.

  • Basic understanding of dental nursing and the Apprentice Dental Nurse role.

  • Able to learn tasks quickly, complete them reliably once shown, and seek support when needed.

  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Roles and Responsibilities

As an Apprentice Dental Nurse, you will receive hands-on training and support while developing the knowledge and practical skills required to become a qualified dental nurse.

  • Prepare, open and close the dental surgery as required.

  • Prepare and maintain the clinical environment before, during and after patient care.

  • Assist dentists and dental hygienists chairside during a range of dental procedures, including instrument transfer, aspiration and retraction as required.

  • Prepare dental materials and equipment as instructed.

  • Decontaminate dental instruments correctly and maintain high standards of infection prevention and control.

  • Follow all practice health and safety procedures, including PPE, COSHH, infection control and waste disposal.

  • Assist with clinical record keeping, including accurately entering notes as dictated by the clinician.

  • Monitor patient comfort and wellbeing throughout their appointment and raise any concerns appropriately.

  • Provide reassurance and support to patients.

  • Monitor surgery stock levels and report items requiring replenishment.

  • Support reception where and when required by greeting patients and, where required, checking them in, answering the phone and dealing with patient enquiries.

  • Booking appointments, taking payment, liaising with laboratories and referral hospitals/practices.

  • Attend and participate in practice meetings, training and development activities, maintain required apprenticeship training records and complete learning activities as required.

  • Attend update and refresher training for medical emergencies and BLS annually follow practice policies, procedures, rules and standards of conduct.

Training to be provided

  • Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing.

  • Safeguarding.

  • First Aid.
