Debate Coach Job Advert
We are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Debate Coach to work as part of our school’s Debate Club, mentor students in developing critical thinking and public speaking skills, and prepare teams for participation in local, national, and international debate tournaments. The Debate Coach will play a key role in fostering a culture of respectful discourse, confidence, and academic excellence.

Debate Coach Job Description
Reports to: Head Debate Coach
Type of contract: Fixed-term, part-time
Place of Work: Upper School, Tournament Locations
Key Responsibilities:
Coach in the Debate Club, including regular after-school sessions.
Coach students in argumentation, rhetoric, research, rebuttal techniques, and public speaking.
Organize and prepare students for competitive debate tournaments, including logistics, registration, and travel (if applicable).
Develop and deliver structured lesson plans and activities that enhance students' debating skills.
Recruit and encourage student participation, ensuring inclusivity and engagement across year groups.
Coordinate with tournament organizers and represent the school in competitive debate forums.
Track student progress, provide individual feedback, and celebrate achievements.
Maintain a safe, respectful, and stimulating environment where students can grow intellectually and socially.
Person Specification
Excellent command of English, written and spoken.
Prior experience coaching or participating in competitive debate (e.g., British Parliamentary, World Schools, or Lincoln-Douglas formats).
Strong organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying skill levels.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Flexibility to work outside standard school hours for practices and tournaments.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
Teaching qualification or experience working with school-age students.
Familiarity with international or regional debate circuits (e.g., WSDC, ESU, MUN-debate hybrids).
While the above includes a description of the essential functions of the position, other duties may be assigned by the Head Debate Coach or Deputy Head Co-Curricular.
