Dalton Together

Dalton Together Business Development Manager

  • Full time

Purpose of the Job:

This is an exciting opportunity to shape and drive forward the development of Dalton Together CIC. You will be responsible for ensuring this vital community partnership becomes the vibrant and sustainable organisation we know it can be. We are seeking a highly motivated Manager to lead the development of Dalton Together CIC and to identify and pursue income generating opportunities to ensure its success. You will also be responsible for the delivery of the Community Roots Programme (funded by the National Lottery Community Fund) in the Dalton Ward, contribute to local partnerships, and ensure that Dalton Together activities are delivered effectively to meet the diverse needs of the Dalton Ward community.

Background to this post:

Dalton Together (DT) has been operating for over five years and was created as an independent community, umbrella organisation to help strengthen the community in the Dalton Ward by;

  • Speaking up for the area– championing the needs and hopes of local people.
  • Seizing opportunities to build a thriving community– by knowing and understanding the communities needs and bringing people and ideas together to benefit the area and most importantly by ‘making good things happen with local people.’
  • Working together to make a bigger impact in the community– by attracting new resources, funding and ideas into the area and creating pride and belonging in the community by encouraging community connections and sharing of experiences.

It currently has its own Board of directors that provides generous leadership across the partnership and its aim in the next two years is to develop a sustainable model for delivering positive impact for Dalton residents and to develop, commission, deliver more services to help create lasting change in the ward. It aims to continue and strengthen its approach by working alongside four key groups:

  • Local people– create amazing neighbourhoods by making good things happen
  • Businesses– championing local business to grow and improve their local connections
  • Community Groups– empowering local groups to create continuous impact by offering a range of activities and support
  • Partners– guide service providers to fulfil community needs by co-ordinating conversation and action

The Community Roots Programme, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, is fundamentally about working with partner organisations and Council services to support people to come together to support each other and address the challenges they and others in their community face given the rising costs of living. We want to support a ‘community powered’ response - we know that residents have the skills, ability and resources to help themselves and others but can face barriers to doing so effectively.

A core principle of this project is that we help build people’s resilience and self-sufficiency and support them to move towards independence. We want to build and nurture the ‘roots’ so people will flourish. We intend to take people from a time of crisis or close to crisis (e.g. accessing emergency food support/food banks, being in debt, using loan sharks etc) and support them to improve their finances (management of debts and income maximisation), start to save, and access affordable food and advice on healthy and affordable cooking, moving them towards independence and resilience.

About you:

You will have proven experience in business development, project management and organisational development. You will have an ability to identify and evaluate income-generating opportunities for Dalton Together and then put in the work to make them happen. You’ll need to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively and have great communication skills to work with residents, ward councillors, Council officers, local businesses, community groups, and public services.

You will be calm under pressure with a proactive and flexible approach to problem-solving and decision-making. You will be a team player who can also work independently, showing initiative and the drive to achieve organisational goals. You will have a passion for community and organisational development and a deep understanding of the challenges facing third sector organisations and the diverse communities they serve.

We’re looking for someone with experience in business, income generation, or a good sense of how business works.

You won’t be doing this by yourself though and will be supported in all of this by the DT Board as well as colleagues from partner organisations. An enterprising approach and a good understanding of how to grow and succeed is key. If you’ve got a track record of getting results, we’d love to hear from you.
