Purpose

Lakeland Arts is looking for an experienced Curatorial Assistant to help shape and deliver an ambitious programme of exhibitions, displays, and public engagement at Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house. This fixed term, 2-year post will support the Curatorial Team during an exciting time at Blackwell, as we work with our ‘Four Lanterns’ network partners (William Morris Gallery, Dovecot Studios, and Ty Pawb) to develop and deliver two touring exhibitions as part of Art Fund’s ‘Going Places’ Project.

The Curatorial Assistant will work closely with Blackwell’s Programme Curator and Exhibitions Manager to deliver the programme at Blackwell, from research and conception, to planning and delivery. You’ll provide vital administrative and hands-on support to the Curatorial Team, including carrying out collections research, liaising with artists and lenders, writing exhibition text and objects labels, and working with the team on installs and deinstalls.

You’ll be based at Blackwell – the Arts & Crafts house (Bowness-on-Windermere), with the opportunity for flexible working from home where projects allow. You may occasionally be required to travel to Lakeland Arts’s other sites, Windermere Jetty Museum (Bowness-on-Windermere) and Abbot Hall (Kendal) for meetings with the wider team.

This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-career professional or aspiring curator to gain experience working on exhibition programming as part of a major Art Fund and NLHF Funded project, whilst learning and working alongside a small, passionate, and dedicated team.

You can see a more detailed breakdown of the key responsibilities for this role in the attached job description. Please note that the key responsibilities listed in the job description are not exhaustive.

Closing date: Midnight 26 April
