The Creative Engagement Assistant Facilitators support the delivery of the Assemble programme, working closely with the Lead Facilitator and Creative Engagement Team.

Assistant Facilitators play a key role in creating a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for young people, contributing to session delivery, supporting participants’ engagement, and helping ensure sessions run smoothly. This role is well suited to practitioners who are developing their facilitation practice and are interested in working within inclusive, youth-led creative programmes.

Location: Onsite with partner organisation

Terms & Conditions

Contract type: Freelance / Fixed-term (project-based)
Fee: £22.31 per hour
Commitment: 14 weeks | 2-hour session per week

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Supporting Programme Delivery
  • Support the delivery of workshop and session activity as directed by the Lead Facilitator.
  • Work with individuals and small groups to support engagement, understanding and participation.
  • Contribute ideas and creative input to sessions, where appropriate.
Inclusion, Access & Participation
  • Support inclusive practice within sessions, responding sensitively to a range of access needs.
  • Help create a welcoming, respectful and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Build positive, appropriate relationships with young people and volunteers.
Safeguarding, Welfare & Health & Safety
  • Support safeguarding and health & safety within sessions, in line with organisational policies.
  • Maintain clear professional boundaries at all times.
  • Report any concerns regarding welfare, behaviour or safety promptly to the Lead Facilitator or Creative Engagement Team.
Partnership Working & Communication
  • Work collaboratively with Lead Facilitators, partner staff and fellow facilitators.
  • Support trips, visits and additional activity linked to the programme as required.
Practical & Operational Support
  • Assist with setting up, clearing away and managing materials, resources and equipment.
  • Support smooth session delivery by responding flexibly to the needs of the group and the Lead Facilitator.
Working Approach & Responsibility

Creative Engagement Assistant Facilitators work under the guidance of the Lead Facilitator and Creative Engagement Team. They are responsible for supporting high-quality, inclusive delivery and for contributing positively to the experience of young people taking part in the programme.

Person Specification
Essential Criteria
Experience & Practice
  • Experience of supporting creative workshops or activities with young people.
  • Interest in participatory, youth-led or co-creative theatre practice.
  • Willingness to contribute creatively and collaboratively within sessions.
Inclusion, Access & Safeguarding
  • Strong commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Willingness to adapt practice to support a range of access needs.
  • Basic understanding of safeguarding and health & safety when working with children and young people (or willingness to learn).
Communication & Professionalism
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work collaboratively with colleagues and partners.
  • Ability to follow direction while also using initiative when supporting participants.
  • Willingness to reflect on practice and develop facilitation skills.
Desirable Criteria
  • Lived experience of disability and/or neurodiversity, and/or experience of working from this perspective within creative or educational settings.
  • Experience of working with young people in education, youth or community settings.
  • Interest in developing a career in creative facilitation, participation or theatre-making.
  • Ability to communicate in British Sign Language (BSL).
