As part of The Greensand Trust Ranger Service, the Countryside Ranger plays a key role in managing and enhancing the Trust’s countryside sites for the benefit of local communities, visitors, wildlife, and historic landscapes. Working primarily at the new Clophill Lakes Nature Reserve and across the Trust’s eastern sites—including additional Nature Reserves and SSSI locations—you will help deliver high‑quality countryside management, conservation, and public engagement.
The Greensand Trust operates a well‑established ranger service responsible for a diverse portfolio of parks and green spaces owned by the Trust or managed on behalf of local authorities and private landowners. Our mission is to provide excellent recreational opportunities while protecting and celebrating the unique landscape, biodiversity, and heritage of the Greensand Ridge area.

Hours: Full time - 40hrs per week
Contract: Permanent

Location: Central Bedfordshire
Salary: £27-28k per annum.
Prospects: Opportunities to take on specific areas of responsibility within the Ranger Service.
Hours of work: There are fixed core working hours applicable to your employment. Your normal working hours are based upon your working 2,080 hours per 52-week year (1 April to 31 March) based on 40 hours per week, Sunday to Saturday. You will need to work flexibly including some weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis and occasional evenings, for which days will be taken off during the previous week. No overtime will be paid. You may negotiate your flexible work hours and rota, within reason, with your line manager and colleagues so long as it is not to the detriment of your work or the Ranger Service.
Annual leave entitlement: You will be entitled to statutory annual leave of 20 days plus public holidays (or days off in lieu of public holidays worked). Additional Annual leave is provided at years 3, 4 and 5 of employment to a maximum of 25 days.
Pension: A workplace pension is provided with a 3% employee contribution.
Vehicle & travel requirements: A vehicle will be provided for work purposes, which is shared by the other officers and rangers. A certain amount of travel will be required as part of your work between sites and to the Trust’s other offices. A mileage allowance is given for travel for work purposes in your own vehicle or by bicycle.
Uniform/dress code: A uniform will be provided which you will be expected to wear when on duty.
Location: You will have a shared desk space in GST offices based Clophill Lakes Nature Reserve
