The vacancy
Are you a qualified counsellor or psychotherapist with relevant experience of working therapeutically with children and young people, and confidence supporting families experiencing grief, trauma and emotional distress?
We are looking for a compassionate and skilled Child and Young Person Counsellor to join our Care team. This role provides therapeutic support to children and young people, and their families, living with severe medical complexity, life‑threatening or life‑shortening conditions, as well as those experiencing anticipatory grief, trauma and bereavement.
Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Salary: £39,959 - £48,117 dependent on experience
EACH Care Band 6
Location: The Treehouse Hospice with ability/ willingness to work across hospice, community and education settings
Please note that a full current full, valid driving license and access to own vehicle is required.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide counselling to children, young people and families affected by illness, trauma, loss and bereavement
- Manage a varied clinical caseload
- Complete comprehensive assessments, formulations, risk assessments and regular reviews
- Deliver individual, group and family therapeutic interventions
- Work collaboratively with multi‑agency partners including schools, health and community services
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records using approved systems
- Provide pre‑ and post‑bereavement counselling and psychoeducation
- Support families with key decision‑making, memory making and end‑of‑life planning
- Contribute to therapeutic groups, workshops, training and organisation‑wide events
What we are looking for:
- Recognised postgraduate counselling/psychotherapy qualification (Level 5+) specific to work with children and young people (CYP)
- UKCP Registered or BACP accredited (or working towards accreditation) or equivalent counselling accreditation
- Regulating body allows practice with both adults and children
- Relevant experience providing counselling to children, young people and families
- Experience of assessment, risk management and multi‑agency working
- Experience working with grief, loss, complex trauma and emotional distress
