Edinburgh University Students' Association is looking to recruit a Coordinator (Volunteering Development) to join our Student Opportunities
team.Edinburgh University Students’ Association is an award-winning organisation, which exists to provide diverse services, representation, and welfare support to the community of over 49,500 students at the University of Edinburgh. By providing opportunities, helping to create change and offering support, we're here to help students get the most out of their time in Edinburgh. We have five venues around the University of Edinburgh campus – Teviot, King’s Buildings House, Potterrow, the Pleasance and Edinburgh College of Art’s Wee Red Bar – which house our offices, cafés, bars, clubs, spaces for students to meet, study and socialise. These spaces transform into some of the most well loved Edinburgh Festival Fringe venues throughout the month of August each year.

The Student Opportunities team focusses on supporting and developing a wide range of student-led activity: to ensure students have the opportunity to meet each other and have fun; to build community amongst our members; and to support their personal and professional development.
Our community volunteering offer exists to connect our students with the local community as well as UK based volunteering opportunities with Third Sector organisations, primarily by engaging students in rewarding volunteering opportunities. We offer: a volunteering brokerage, student-led volunteering societies, and access to volunteering partnership projects, as well as advice, resources, funding, and awards and recognition to students who volunteer.
Our offer aims to provide students with both one-off and long-term quality volunteering opportunities to stimulate both personal and professional growth and to provide them with links to the local community to expand their experience while studying at the University of Edinburgh.
Salary: £30,412 - £32,920 (Band D)
In line with our Pay Policy, the successful candidate will typically be offered the lowest salary band point, dependent on experience.

The Role:
The Coordinator (Volunteering Development) is responsible for supporting the development and delivery of our community volunteering offer through working directly with student volunteers, groups and external stakeholders, to maximise the impact of current initiatives and seek new opportunities for growth.
Key projects this role leads and actively delivers include:
- Big Sort– delivering an annual sustainability project diverting tonnes of household goods from landfill in May and June
- Take What You Need– leading an annual freebies fair for new students each September
- City of Edinburgh Council Language Exchange Programme– placing student language volunteers in primary schools across the city
- Give it a Go– hosting a volunteering fair for new and returning students each January
- Volunteering Hub– promoting city-wide volunteering opportunities via our online Hub
- Community Grants– representing the Association on the university’s community funding panel
- Winter Food collection– delivering our food donation project and wider giving activity in the lead up to the winter holidays.
- Volunteer recognition– hosting recognition and thank-you events for student volunteers.
This role will also work as part of a team on delivering support for a wider range of student groups and will contribute to our overall objective of providing all students access to diverse, inclusive and innovative activities and developments, in order to enhance their student experience. The post holder will work to develop relationships with and support students from volunteering societies, as well as our various language programmes. You will collaborate with colleagues within Student Opportunities and a variety of other teams across the Association, including planning for Welcome Week, Careers Fairs, National Volunteering Week, Give it A Go, Student Awards etc. You will support and manage a part-time officer to develop emerging student-led volunteering activities that promote wellbeing and community-building.
This post is a Maternity Cover role and offered as a fixed-term contract up to 52 weeks.
The Person:
You will be confident and experienced individual, a self-starter with excellent project management and interpersonal skills, a comprehensive understanding of volunteering and the 3rd sector. You will be a high performing individual with a natural flair for building meaningful relationships with a diverse range of individuals at various levels.
You will have an eye for detail and the ability to lead projects independently and work collaboratively. You will work effectively with a range of students, staff, and community stakeholders to help support the interests and needs of students at the University of Edinburgh. You will value and champion the role of volunteering in the life of our members and the wider community, being a passionate advocate for volunteering in contemporary society.
You will be motivated by working in a complex multi-disciplinary environment, engaging effectively and proactively with all departments across the Association to provide the very best for our members.
