The RAF Association has a clear objective: to help sustain a resilient and empowered RAF community, including serving personnel, RAF veterans and their families. Through our sector leading services, we offer friendship to the isolated and lonely, sheltered housing for those who want to remain proudly independent and childcare to serving personnel on RAF stations. We work closely with partner organisations, including other military charities, and have a strong bond with our donors and supporters, giving us the confidence to deliver for our beneficiaries when they need us. We work together to make sure no one is ever left behind.
About the role
Our property, Wexford House, is a beautiful Georgian building located in Melton Mowbray providing independent living accommodation for retirees aged over 60. The Casual Cook will be required to prepare home cooked nutritious lunches and dinners each day for up to 10 people. The cook role is about much more than simply delivering meals. Residents value the social aspect of eating together, the consistency of home-cooked food, and the contribution the kitchen makes to the overall community atmosphere
About you
A background in adult social care would be desirable however most importantly you will have a good understanding of the needs of older retired persons wishing to retain their independence. A Food Hygiene certificate is an essential requirement however we can provide training for the ideal candidate. Previous cooking or catering experience is key – this could be formal or informal. As well as bringing a good sense of humour to the position, you will have a natural ability to deal with older people in a sensitive, caring and compassionate manner. We would love you to be able to work flexibly to provide additional cover when the Scheme Manager is away. Physically, you will need to have a moderate level of general fitness to enable you to handle grocery deliveries as well as handling kitchen and cooking equipment. Overall we are looking for an enthusiastic ‘hands on’ team member who is a resourceful and innovative problem solver and can confidently manage a busy, yet enjoyable workload.
This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check on appointment and every 3 years thereafter.
