Could you help lead the United Reformed Church (URC) in its commitment to reducing its carbon footprint?

The Convenor of the Net Zero Task Group (NZTG) has a key role in coordinating the work of the Net Zero Task Group to provide support, advice and encouragement to the whole of the URC, to help lead the denomination towards a net zero carbon future.

We’re looking for a Convenor who will bring their own experience, drive and perspectives to the NZTG, while also releasing these in others within the task group. The Convenor should be a URC member (lay or ordained).

Convenor of the URC Net Zero Task Group

Purpose: This voluntary role gives you the opportunity to lead the Net Zero Task Group (NZTG) as it shapes its priorities and programme. You’ll enable the team of volunteers to work together effectively, encouraging each member to use their various gifts, skills and knowledge, and help set agendas and realistic timelines for implementation of plans. You will be a key driving force for change at every level of the URC’s structures through a programme of resourcing and encouragement to help deliver its ambitious environmental goals.

Responsibilities:

Set meeting agendas and lead task group meetings, supported by Offices of General Assembly staff. There are around six main meetings per year, held online (dates arranged around the availability of the task group members)

Read papers and prepare ahead of meetings so you can lead discussions confidently

• Set realistic goals and develop deliverable plans of action with the task group, holding members to account

Support pieces of task group work between meetings, including work set by General Assembly

• Liaise effectively with decision-making structures within the URC, including preparing and delivering verbal or written reports

Ensure compliance with expected standards of governance

Amplify and add to the voices of prophetic challenge within and beyond the Church for further, urgent progress in caring for creation, including the URC Synod Green Apostles

Why volunteer with us?

Make a real impact: help shape the environmental progress of the whole of the URC

Use your knowledge and skills in governance, leadership, communication and teamwork within a passionate team

Create a legacy of vital action at an important moment in the URC’s development

Designed to fit around other commitments: you will help shape how often the task group and any subgroups meets together.
