Job Summary:

The Controller position exists to provide Biblica with timely and accurate financial reports, financial analysis, financial compliance, and cash management. The Controller applies principles of accounting to record accurate financial information in the general ledger to support accurate financial reports to management. The Controller is responsible for accurate and complete financial reporting for all entities assigned. This position will have daily interaction with Vice Presidents, directors, managers, and supervisors of all departments at Biblica’s headquarters, along with interaction with global staff, banking personnel, auditors, royalty licensees, vendors, and customers.

The Controller is responsible for the development of the Finance Department’s annual operating plan, goals, and strategies, as well as the planning and project management of the annual audit preparation, and all tax preparation and reporting compliance. The Controller is responsible for properly resourcing, delegating, scheduling, training, monitoring, and measuring work assignments of all direct reports. Committed to a biblical model of leadership, he/she will lead, coach, and develop staff to empower them to grow both professionally and spiritually. He/she will communicate the vision of Biblica and adhere to company policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Accounting Manager, Senior Staff Accountant, Accounting Assistant, Accounts Payable Administrator

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the accuracy and completeness of all Biblica U.S. and U.K. accounting transactions.
  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Reporting Biblica U.S. and U.K. financial statements, including management accounts; departmental budget variance reports; and proper tracking of designated project income and expenses, monthly.
  • Reporting Biblica Inc. & Affiliates' combined financial statements with all controlled and uncontrolled affiliate entities, quarterly.
  • Oversight of the annual external audit for multiple entities, including preparation of all audit workpapers and schedules.
  • Oversight of all tax preparation and compliance:
    • Sales and Use Tax
    • Form 990
    • Forms 1099, 1042, 1042S, W-9, W8-BEN, etc.
  • Cash management and control, including incoming cash processing, monitoring of cash balances, recommending cash transfers, wire transfer authorization, and corporate card administration.
  • Oversight of the royalty and internal audit programs for Biblica.
  • Oversee the monthly international grant payment process.
  • Work directly with Affiliate Finance Controllers to reconcile financial data.
  • Assist the Biblica CFO with the Annual Budget process.
  • Assist the Biblica CFO and senior management in ad hoc financial analysis and customized report preparation, when requested.
  • Signing authority of $15,000.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting required.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience required.
  • Non-profit accounting and CPA or CMA preferred.
  • International business experience preferred.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct Software preferred.
  • Experience in multi-company consolidations, financial analysis, and supervisory skills preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work remotely with minimal supervision
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times

  • The ability for up to 10% overnight travel to various locations locally, regionally, and globally.

  • Advanced MS Office proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required. To be successful in this role, must have advanced Excel, experience with a modern, cloud-based ERP system, and comfort utilizing multiple applications.
  • Ability to drive and monitor project timelines and provide regular updates and communication with staff, consultants, and external constituents.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize workload in a self-sufficient manner.
  • A team player who is proactive and flexible.

FLSA Classification

  • Exempt

Salary/Hours/Benefits:

  • Grade 700
  • Salary range: $125k – $140k (Determined by qualifications/experience)
  • Full Time - 40 hours per week
