We are looking for an inspirational Consultant in Public Health/Consultant in Public Health Medicine to join our dynamic team.

Job summary

This role requires an understanding of public health principles and health inequalities and their applicability to the health and wellbeing of children, young people and families.

You will play a critical role in bringing an evidence-based approach to designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to reduce disparities in health outcomes and experiences and promote equitable access to healthcare services. Your expertise will contribute to improving the inclusivity of the healthcare system and Barnardo's programmes of work with the aim of improving the overall health and well-being of underserved populations.

You will oversee a small, committed team and work alongside them and the other consultant to develop our evidence-based public health portfolio of work in Barnardo's.

Job Purpose

As a Consultant in Public Health/Consultant in Public Health Medicine, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and evaluating strategies to reduce disparities in health outcomes and promote equitable access to healthcare services. Your expertise will contribute to improving the overall health and well-being of underserved populations, creating a more just and inclusive healthcare system and increasing the inclusivity of the programmes of work Barnardo's undertake.

You will lead the Public Health and Health Inequalities team in supporting the development of our evidence based public health portfolio of work at Barnardo's.

Main duties of the job

  • In partnership with colleagues, lead the conceptualisation, design, and implementation of public health programmes, focussed on children, young people, and families, ensuring there is an alignment with local and national health priorities across all regions and nations.
  • Utilise best practice and evidence-based approaches to develop and implement targeted interventions that promote the physical, mental health, and social well-being in children, young people, and families that target vulnerable populations.
  • Provide expert guidance on child and family health issues to inform policy decisions and promote evidence-informed decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively to develop a public health vision for Barnardo's.
  • Identify and develop growth opportunities for Barnardo's.
  • Lead the Public Health and Health Inequalities Team, line managing the Programme Manager for Health Inequalities and Strategic Lead for Health Visiting.
  • Deputise for the Director of Health.
  • Present at regional and national events to promote the work of Barnardo's as an integrated health and social care charity.

Working arrangements

This is a permanent, 3-day-a-week role, held alongside another consultant in a job share. We are also open to candidates interested in a long-term secondment.
