Company Stage Manager (Daphne)

Daphne is a vivid, intimate and imaginative new play about the life and inner world of Daphne du Maurier – one of the most celebrated and enigmatic writers of the twentieth century. Blending memory, imagination and storytelling, the play explores the woman behind the novels: her creativity, her contradictions, her loves and longings. Moving fluidly between different moments in her life, Daphne invites audiences into a rich theatrical portrait that is by turns witty, moving, romantic and quietly haunting. This is a bold new piece of theatre, written by acclaimed new-kid-on-block Rosie Race, that celebrates the power of stories, the complexity of identity, and the cost – and beauty – of a life devoted to art.

Working closely with the Director (Martin Berry), Production Manager and the wider creative and technical teams, the Company Stage Manager will play a central role in the smooth running of rehearsals and performances. They will oversee the day-to-day organisation of the show company, manage the Stage Management team, and act as a key point of communication across departments.

Responsibilities will include running technical rehearsals, preparing relevant show documentation, assisting the Assistant Stage Manager and Designer with props sourcing, coordinating schedules and calls, and ensuring clear communication between creative, technical and producing teams. The Company Stage Manager will lead the show through technical rehearsals and performances, undertaking a show track where required, and maintaining the artistic and technical integrity of the production throughout the run. A strong commitment to safe working practices, professionalism and company care is essential. The CSM may also be required to support an Elevate: Production training placement in an area of the production team. If applicable, relevant information and support will be given.

We are looking for an experienced and confident Company Stage Manager with excellent organisational and communication skills, and a calm, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative rehearsal environment, be adaptable to evolving creative processes, and bring care, clarity and leadership to a vibrant and ambitious new production.

We are keen to employ someone for this role who is based in or has a meaningful connection to the South West of England (such as through birth, family connections or education). We are also interested in hearing from people who may not be available for these dates, but who would be interested in working at Exeter Northcott in this capacity in the future. Please make this clear in your application should this be the case.
