Location: Bristol Animal Rescue Centre, 48-50 Albert Road, St Philips, Bristol BS2 0XA, with travel and time expected to be spent in the community within the Bristol and District area.

Salary: £31,000 – £35,000 FTE depending on experience (£18,600 – £21,000 actual)

Hours per week: Part time, 21 hours per week (out of 35 hours FTE). To be worked across 3 – 4 days during office hours (Monday to Friday, 8am – 5pm). Occasional weekend and evening work may be required, for which TOIL will be agreed with the line manager.

About the role

The Community Support Manager will be responsible for the development and delivery of our community support programme. The role will lead a programme of work aimed at supporting pet owners, preventing animal welfare issues arising, reducing pet relinquishment, and promoting the overall wellbeing of animals within Bristol and District communities.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, the post holder will work closely with local partners, volunteers and community members to identify and respond to animal welfare needs in the community. The role will oversee the delivery of targeted support services, ensuring the programme aligns with the organisation’s strategy, operates within budget, and complies with relevant legislation and policies.

The role includes responsibility for managing the Outreach Nurse and Community Volunteers, developing partnerships with external organisations, and working collaboratively across the charity to maximise impact. The successful candidate will also contribute to research, monitoring, reporting, communications and fundraising activity related to the programme.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the ongoing development and delivery of the community pet support programme
  • Researching local animal welfare needs and developing effective support initiatives
  • Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on programme outcomes
  • Managing, motivating and developing staff and volunteers
  • Building and maintaining partnerships with charities, agencies and community organisations
  • Supporting communications, fundraising and awareness campaigns
  • Assisting with budget monitoring and financial planning
  • Ensuring compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, GDPR and charity policies
  • Promoting the values and strategic objectives of Bristol A.R.C.

  • You are an organised and proactive manager who enjoys developing programmes and building strong relationships with partners, volunteers and colleagues.
  • You are confident managing multiple priorities and projects, and you are comfortable balancing strategic planning with hands-on delivery.
  • You are an effective communicator with strong interpersonal and networking skills, able to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and represent the charity professionally.
  • You are analytical and data-informed, with experience monitoring outcomes and using insight to improve services and demonstrate impact.
  • You are a supportive people manager who motivates and develops others to achieve shared goals.
  • You have experience managing budgets, ensuring compliance, and working collaboratively across teams and organisations.
  • You are adaptable, resilient and able to use your initiative in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are committed to the aims and values of Bristol A.R.C. and motivated to make a meaningful difference to pets and people within the local community.
