Salary: £25,806 per annum (pro rata)

Age UK Bristol promotes and offers activities to help people stay connected, get active and enjoy life. We do this to reduce social isolation and improve wellbeing so that people age well. We are lnow ooking for someone to join us as a Strength and Balance Instructor for older adults.

This is an exciting new role for us, offering the opportunity to shape and develop our strength and balance provision. We are looking for someone already trained in recognised, evidence-based strength and balance programmes, including Otago, REACT and FaME, who can confidently deliver safe, effective and engaging sessions.

A key part of this role will be to proactively seek out opportunities to expand our offer across Bristol. You will work closely with community partners, venues and local organisations to identify need, build relationships and establish new classes in areas where they are most needed. This will include assessing local demand, setting up new groups, promoting sessions and ensuring they are accessible and inclusive for a wide range of older people.

You will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, evidence-based strength and balance classes, supporting participants to improve their mobility, confidence and independence. You will adapt sessions to meet varying abilities and needs, ensuring a safe and supportive environment that encourages ongoing participation.

We are looking for someone with strong community engagement and liaison skills—an outgoing and approachable person who is also a good listener. You will be comfortable working as part of a close-knit team while also having the confidence to represent us independently in community settings. Enthusiasm, creativity and initiative are essential, as you will play a central role in getting new activities up and running and sustaining engagement over time.

The role will focus on supporting older people from a wide range of communities, so an understanding of the needs of diverse groups is important. Ideally, you will have a good awareness of services offered by the voluntary and community sector, or a willingness to learn.

Due to the nature of this post, you will frequently work out in the community, with regular time in the office to stay connected with colleagues. There may also be occasional opportunities for home working.

You will need to travel across different areas of Bristol, so the ability to get around the city efficiently is essential.

We work closely with other voluntary organisations who share our ambition to build an age-friendly city, and we are looking for someone with the drive and commitment to help us make a meaningful difference.

You will benefit from:
• Bike to work scheme available
• Flexible working including flexitime and hybrid working
• 25 days holiday (pro rata), plus bank holidays
• 6% employer pension contribution
• Ongoing training, support and development
• Employee Assistance Programme
• An employer which values its staff

We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage people from a variety of backgrounds to apply.
